Question of the day, Friday, Nov 12th

So I hope you guys don't think i'm asking this question with the intention of judging people because I'm not

But my question is

Do you smoke? And if you do, when did you start, do you do it just for fun or because you're addicted, and wish you didn't?

I've been around people who smoke lately and it just looks so appealing to watch people smoke. It's like they are enjoying themselves so much!!
So I've tried smoking occasionally when I'm in their company. But, I find that it's not something I could do on a regular basis, because it's not like I would smoke inside the house, that would make the house smell bad. And, going outside just to smoke seems kind of pointless, it would be fun to have a cigarette while I'm doing something like watching a movie, but to go out and sit down for no reason other than just to smoke is not fun for me. I think the way our culture is now makes it less likely for people to start smoking randomly....
Anyway I was just curious. My dad quit about 4 or 5 years ago, and he says that he would still smoke, because he just likes it and doesn't care so much about health concerns, he thinks one should spend time enjoying life even if it means making it shorter, and if things had been the way they were when he was younger- when there wasn't as much social stigma attached to it and you didn't have to worry about making non smokers uncomfortable. He says now it's just not the same anymore and it's not fun for him to go out alone just for the purpose of smoking either. So yea, I'm just curious what you guys think and whether or not you smoke

And I'd also like to apologize for being behind on the Question of the day for Fridays! I've been really busy and so uninspired for what to ask. But I've made a list of questions for future weeks and I am back in the game

I don't smoke and never have, I really don't understand why anyone would smoke "just for fun" these days

I have a celebratory cigar every now and then but other than that, I don't smoke.

I smoked for 4 years (14-18), before quitting in order to be able to afford gas to visit Rob (we lived 3 hours apart when we started dating. Plus, he didnt like smoking).

I wouldn't say I was addicted, because I never felt I -needed- a cigarette, and I stopped cold turkey and that was that. I have smoked 2 since I quit in 2005, both while pretty drunk Hubby doesn't care if I smoke Black & Milds or a cigar (though I'm not a fan of cigar after-taste), but I don't go out of my way to get them, every time I've smoked either of those, someone else has given them to me.

I'm a smoker and yes, I do enjoy it, but I wish I didn't smoke. Don't start! It's an expensive habit, not to mention how bad it is for your health I will be quitting in about a month since I won't be able to afford it when I'm unemployed

I usually have no trouble quitting, it's staying quit that is my issue.... a couple years ago I quit for 11 months and started right up again

I've never even tried smoking. And I never thought it looked like "fun" . Especially when it's 20 below outside, LOL. Poor addicted smokers freezing to death out there. I can't imagine they're doing it for fun at that point, either.

Nope, don't smoke, never have. My Dad smoked since he was 14 years old and smoked even when he had cancer.

No smoking. Too risky IMO, health issues don't sound fun

I smoked in the early 1990's but only on the weekends and not that much. I'm "that friend" who you just know is gonna ask Can I bum a cig? etc I do not smoke anymore. A friend of mine got addicted as a child because he breathed in his mom's second-hand smoke for years. He didn't realize til he went off to college and had withdrawal - then he put 2 and 2 together. Or so he says.

I smoked for 20 years, about 2 packs a day. Have been smoke-free now for over 15 years.

I could start up again just like that. I still miss it.

Im way late on this one.

I smoke....Im trying to work up to quitting right now I have where a pack lasts 2-3 days from one pack a day. My hardest time to quit is the morning...I smoke a lot when Im waking up but once Im awake I maybe have 3 cigarettes for the rest of the day. BF and I both plan on smoking not because it costs a lot but basically because we would atleast like to try and quit. We roll our own so for the both of us its only about 30 bucks a month, its just annoying to roll our own. As for the just for fun part...nope flat out addicted Ive been smoking since I was in like 6th grade and Im now 26 so Ive got a few years of smoking Im combatting here.

No, I quit when I was pregnant with dd. Dh is having some success quitting with those electronic cigarettes. They are a little expensive, but if it improves his health, it it worth every dime. They have nicotine in them, but not alll the other carcinogens in cigarettes. What you blow out is not smoke, bur water vapor. They are approved in restaurants, airplanes, most places.

I smoked for a couple of years in my 20s. I was stupid because I am asthmatic. I didn't have any trouble quitting, I don't know why, but I've never had an addictive personality, thank goodness.

I can't imagine smoking "for fun," though, if you have ever seen anyone battle cancer there's no fun involved.

I no longer smoke, I quit in 1990 and haven't smoked since. When I see others smoke especially women, it looks so bad to me. I think to myself, that's what I looked like for many, many years. Smoking is not something you do for fun since it can kill you, people just get addicted to it but there are many things on the market to help people quit. I see now they have put some horrible graphics on cigarette packs, I saw this on the news.

If you don't smoke...don't start.

Congrats! Here's hoping you don't pick up the habit again
