Carpeted scratching post recommendation?

My cats own 4 scratching posts. They use them all, to a greater or lesser extent, and they all have different surfaces. One that is very popular with them is the carpeted one.

I got it a year ago and it is looking pretty bald in some places. So, it is time to think about a new one. I got this one at Petsmart. It was the tallest one they had. The cats have liked it from the start. One used it when I walked in the door with it and put it down.

But, I've never liked it because it sheds pieces of the carpet threads every time they use it. I pick them up or vacuum them up daily. I know some think carpeted posts just encourage the scratching of the actual carpets. But, my cats don't do that.

So I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation of a brand and/or source that will be less labor intensive for me. I'm looking for a simple post - not a tree or condo.

Thanks in advance,

Robin

The ones I've made were from the short nap commercial grade level loop carpet. It's the kind you see in upscale offices. It doesn't seem to get fibrous when the cats have a go at it.

What else works pretty good is to wrap rope (like a sisal or manila)). Kitties seem to like that too. Actually a little bit of catnip sprinkled helps a lot.

Berber doesn't shed. They might like that.

I was thinking maybe I need to go to a carpet store, try to buy some remnants or samples and staple it on the base I have. Recycling is better than buying a new one.

Katkuddler, wouldn't "loop" carpet snag their claws? And, Otto, isn't Berber looped, too?

I don't know much about carpet. I have oriental type area rugs. Every thread is knotted so it doesn't pull out. That's what I'm really hoping for - carpet that doesn't have threads that pull out. Originally I was thinking that the threads pulled out of this post because it was low grade carpet. But maybe all or most would do that?

I do have a Berber area rug in one room. But my cats don't claw it. I don't know why (though I'm glad they don't).

I do have sisal covered posts - both fabric and rope. My cats do like them, especially the fabric one (Ultimate Scratching Post). But they like the carpeted one a great deal. Actually, I think it is their favorite. So, I'd like to replace it with a carpeted one, or refurbish this one.
