My friend Fran from K-9 Homefinders has a bad situation. She rescues dogs and feral cats and today has had her sole support for donated food yanked out from under her. WalMart changed their policies and are now donating only to the pound.

If you can help-out with any donation it would sure be appreciated. She has a lot of acreage and last time I was there, there were 53 dogs on her land. The cats live upstairs in the house. She is non-profit so anything you give is tax-deductable.

Here is a link- Bless you for reaching into your pocketbook when times are so tough- and Bless you for adding her to your prayer list-

Hissy, I spoke with Fran tonight and she clarified some things for me. She currently has 30 dogs and 3 cats. She is not rescuing feral cats at the moment and she is 501c3.

I am going to try and find her a food program or food donor for her dogs, but she still needs help.

She's a wonderful woman and hope there are some folks that will be able to help.

Hissy, when I look at the link, it looks like the only way to send a donation to your friend would be to send a check to the address given. Is that the best way?

Thanks to you for helping out this wonderful woman.

And, of course, thanks to her for taking on this noble cause. I hope she finds another sponsor or some other way to care for these animals, very soon.

Thanks,

Robin

I just talked to her and she said gift card would be great (anything but WalMart cards!) We have Safeway and Target nearby and K-Mart. Best price for the dollar on pet food is at Target, even cheaper than WalMart.
Her website is being worked on so it isn't all the way there yet. She will send a link when it is working and I will post it. There is a paypal button on that.

Thanks guys!

She sent me the links but they lead to the same page- both of them.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/k9homefinders.html

If you want to do a paypal for her- go to my website www.kitten-rescue.com and click on the donate button there. Just put in the subject line Fran- so that I know. Fran lives about 25 minutes from me- and I will be sure she gets the money. I will be traveling tomorrow to NY to the Cat Writers' Convention where I hope my manuscript will receive favorable reviews and my book for feral and stray caregivers can become a reality- but when I get home- I can get the monies to her.

Thanks guys!

Hissy, I had suggested Fran add to her site that she is 501c3 and to state that any donations to Baby Oakley would be tax deductible. Not sure what happened, but I don't see that there now.

Have a safe trip and best of luck with your book.

From what I understand, she is having the website redone. Hopefully, she will take what you said to heart.

Has she checked if she qualifies for the Science Diet food program? She would have to pay for it but it's pretty cheap. It's 25 cents a pound. A lot cheaper than anything you can buy in any store, even the really crappy brands.
As a rescue she may not qualify. They only work with shelters that have a facility. But it's definitely worth looking into. A rescue I know of works with a pet store to adopt out their foster cats and the pet store apparently qualified as a facility so they get to take part in the Science Diet program.

Hi Hissy,

I was going through some of my older mail and discovered a notice for this thread. I went back to look at your friend's petfinder site and noticed your friend updated the website. I'm so glad she did. You might want to mention to her to add that a donation to Bear's care would be tax deductible. She has:
Please Help Bear
You can donate toward his care, using his sponsor me button on his page at http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/dis...petid=17724070
I suggest she change it to:
Please Help Bear
You can make a tax deductible donation toward his care, using his sponsor me button on his page at http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/dis...petid=17724070
