What are your thoughts on feeding Taste of the Wild to kittens? I currently have two cats, age 2 and 3, who are eating Taste of the Wild dry food. We're going to be getting two 3-month old kittens this weekend and I'm wondering if it will be OK to begin to transition them from their current food (Iams Kitten I believe), to the TOTW food that my older cats are eating?

I will have kitten-only canned food to feed the kittens, but just wondering if it's okay if they munch on the TOTW.

Thanks in advance.

When I got Tumbles in July, he was approx. 10-12 weeks old. After about a month on IAMS kitten and TOTW dry, we found that he ate the TOTW crunchies before eating the other food kibbles, so we went strictly to feeding him TOTW for his dry food. He was getting 4 canned food meals a day of EVO kitten/cat food. Tumbles is now a little more than 6 mos. old and he's healthy as can be. So, I say go for it! LOL

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
TOTW is all stages so I would assume the all includes kittens as well as seniors. I currently have 2 kittens one approx 3 mths old and another 5 weeks old. I feed TOTW to my 2 yr olds and am working on figuring out when to get the 5 week old off wet and onto dry. Due to digestion issues and a certain kitty (GIGI) having glutton and poop issues I am unable to do wet food.

Taste is Fine for kittens.. Seniors technically can eat it but most nutritionists and vets will advise against it

Why? My two are only 2 years old, so they have a ways to go before they become 'senior', but they like TOTW dry. Just thinking ahead!!

Thanks, Sharky for all your advice and knowledge!!!

Thanks for the replies. Incidentally, I had to take my oldest (3 yrs) to the emergency vet clinic last night after she had a bad reaction to her rabies vaccination. (Vet seems to think it was an inflammation in the nerve of her hind leg where the shot was given... she couldn't put weight on it and was falling over when she tried to walk. She is better today, but we're watching it to be sure.).

Anyways.... both vets said she was overweight... 17 lbs. I couldn't believe it. I thought she was 14 lbs. So needless to say, I need to either cut back on her dry food, or switch to something else, or both. We always keep dry down, but I tried to only put about 1/4 cup a day in the bowls, but inevitably we'd end up putting more.

Thanks again everybody.

Hope the OP does not mind a bit off topic

the Protein in dry food is MUCH harder to digest and like humans older cats do not digest food as easily as a younger animal... ie It could tax already stressed organs

Definitely don't mind the off - topic. It's something I am interested in too. I liked the idea of a grain free that was lower in protein in the TOTW.... I believe around 42%; whereas EVO and Core are over 50. My cats had dark diarrhea on the latter, so I was glad to find something a little less rich. They've been doing great on it. Except of course the chubby one who has gotten up to 17 lbs.

But I assume, just like people food, if you've got something with lower protein, you've got higher carbs. And we all know what happens if you consume too many carbs and are not too active!

we offer TOTW dry to our kitten but now she's getting wet she doesn't touch the dry so we're going to stop offering the dry. When she was on just TOTW dry she really liked it but the problem we had was she had horribly stinky poop! her litterbox is all the way on the other end of the house as our bedroom and it would wake us mid sleep, at first we literally thought she had pooped in our bedroom!
