Cat tempertantrum? Advice

Hi -

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I have a cat, Sassy. She's probably around 14 years old. I've started noticing recently within the last few months that while I'm working she'll try to get attention. She'll try walking onto my laptop making it hard for me to work. I gently move myself so that she jumps down. Then she'll come back up and then nuzzle me. When she doesn't get the attentions she wants, she bites me. Not just a nip, a full on bite. She doesn't break skin, but she leaves teeth marks through thick shirts. How do I stop her from doing this? I, usually in a firm tone, say NO and move to another location. Then she'll glare at me from across the room with that look of " if you'd just gave me some attention, I wouldn't have had to bite you!" Some people had mentioned bitter spray stuff. But I'm not dousing my arms/hands in the stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Awwww! If it were me, I'd stop and give her the lovin she wants. At that age, you're not going to have her for much longer, so treasure all the time you've got.

If you haven't already, I would get her to a vet and run a senior panel on her. Sometimes they act out (at that age) because they are having small strokes or times of dementia. I have one here, who is 13 and she was also acting off. I finally took her in they ran bloodwork and determined she has cancer. She is now living in our bedroom and I am watching her so she can let me know when she has had enough. I opted out of chemo and radiation. I did that with another cat years ago and it was brutal for both of us. I am NOT saying that your cat has cancer, but I definitely would go in and get that bloodwork done.

Sassy has always been a biter. She is part feral and before I rescued her she was abused by kids on the street. So, I'm used to being bit if she gets scared by a noise or suddenly gets spooked by my hand. To me this seems more behavioral. She was into see a vet a few months ago because of some eye discoloration which turned out to be nothing serious. But the vet had to sedate her because Sassy does not do well with strangers or the vet. The first time she was brought in, it took 3 aides to hold her down so the vet could look at her. So now she gets sedated. (At the vet she has an orange warning sticker. This lets everyone know she is a highly aggressive cat) So she goes in only if absolutely necessary. It stresses her out. I have not noticed any other changes in bowels or eating habits. She's normal in every other way. But I will take your advice into consideration.
