I saw my dream job posted yesterday! It's a Respiratory Nurse Clinician job at the hospital I used to work at. I'm currently what they call a "Nurse II" basically for pay-grade purposes. The job I applied for is a "Nurse V", so it comes with a substantial increase in pay (about 32% more than what I currently make).

It's a great deal of autonomy and focuses more on patient care and education than what I'm currently doing.

I love where I am currently working. I love everyone I'm working with. But there is so much wrong so far as idiotic changes, no communication and just being dumped on (not just me, but there are so many unhappy people there for the very same reasons and so many looking for other jobs because of it). The stress level is astronomical!

I've always loved Respiratory Medicine and wanted my career to follow that path.

The job indicated that a nursing degree was preferred but that they would consider equivalent experience, of which I feel I have a substantial amount.

I sent off my resume today, so I hope to hear something by next week. I included 2 very favourable written references. Plus I used to work at the hospital so I know the policies and procedures, and combined with my experience from my current job, I think I stand a pretty good chance!

So please send lots and lots of those TCS vibes my way! They worked before when I was looking for a position for my back to work program, and then again when I applied for the job that I'm currently in!

I really, really, really, really want this other job!!!! It's in an area of nursing that I absolutely love! It gives me a huge career boost! A huge increase in income! It will open so many doors for me in the event I end up job seeking again in the future too. And best of all it's at the hospital that I started nursing at and one that I miss working at so very much! The only reason I left was because I wanted to get away from bedside nursing and wanted to work day shift. Had I found something like that I wouldn't have left in the first place.

So send those vibes!!!!

I had my doubts. By the time I got home from work I had pretty much talked myself out of it. But then I sat down and found myself updating my resume, and the more I changed and added, the more I felt that I actually do qualify for the job! I don't have the nursing degree, but I do have almost 15 years nursing experience and lots of it involved caring for respiratory patients, some with trachs and ventilators too. Plus I have personal experience having cared for my Mom when I was 14 to almost 16 years old. I took on the role of nurse when she was sick with emphysema. I suctioned her, ordered oxygen, did chest assessments and pummeling to drain her lungs.

My cover letter was on the personal side, but I felt I needed to dig deep to bring out the fact that I have a long history working with respiratory patients in order for them to see that I do actually have the skills, knowledge and ability to do the job. No piece of paper would give me what I already have....experience.

I have bats flying around in my gut! I'm so excited and nervous! I just hope I get an interview and that I don't blow it!

Best of luck - as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained - and at the absolute worst, you now have a clear view of all of your capabilities and experience and practice in applying for a new position. And that's can only be a good thing to give you more confidence to face anything. And, the best - your dream job!

Good luck again,
