Why does my cat like to sit on my face?

This is odd but funny. Recently when I'm on the couch or the bed, laying stomach up, wonderful Emma will jump on me. Now at first she will come up on my chest, I pet her... and then she lays down on me face to me like she is going to sleep.

.... Then usually 5 minutes or so later, she will get up, and turn so her face is away from me, and her butt is in my face. Not near my face, she likes to get her butt on my face pretty much. I can move her down so it's near my chin and she is fine. She acts like its perfectly normal, she will then put her head down and go to sleep, with her butt in my face.

It's funny, I'm sure she is just showing affection, but I can't have her do that all the time lol. Is there an easy way to have her sleep face towards me if she is going to sleep on my chest. I don't want to yell at her, and eventually she gets the idea if I nudge her but a bit, but I feel bad haha.

Because she can!

When Maia was younger she loved to sleep on my chest, till she grew to big to balance herself. Then she started to try and use my face as a balance ofcourse with her butt ! It's all about the love

Haha...I have to laugh at this because our new kitten will actually wrap herself around BFs throat at night. I tried telling him that his snoring made her feel safe because it was like purring...He didnt believe me, he thinks Bacon/Jules is trying to kill him at night. I swear its a cat thing though, my two oldest will just turn circles with those lovely pauses as soon as their butts are right smack dab in front of our faces....I play it safe and dont lay down while they are looking for the perfect nap spot. GiGi will even go as far as to sleep with her butt in your face but also smacking us in the head with her tail...I swear its deliberate!!!!

This happened again last night. I fell asleep, cat was at my feet, I wake up this morning to the feeling of near suffocation and a tail hitting my face back and forth. Of course its Emma laying on my face again.

Very highest of high compliments, Emma sharing her butt with you. When kittens are babies their mama's lick their bottoms to get the poop out. It's an instinctive trusting gesture for her to turn her butt to your face.

I've had face sleepers before too. Baby always slept on my head or face. Queen Eva is beginning to show a liking for my face as a bed, too.

Interesting! Sk, I just saw Emma's catpage - She's so cute! My kitty Daisy was a "here's my butt" type. Nowadays not as much

Some cats like yours, and my Midnight, are very proud of their butts, and want their owners to know it!

I've also read that it's the highest of compliments - not only treating you as though you're their mom, but also trusting you with their back. What could be more trusting than that?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm glad she trusts me. She is an awesome cat, this wasn't even really a complaint, just a funny observation. She hardly ever leaves me side to be honest. Right now is one of the few times she isn't next to me and that's only because she is sleeping in her cat bed.

Emma has been awesome to me, I'm so happy. I think she knows that I take care of her, so in return she gives that love right back.

But that's a whole other story. Sniggles is a mouth cat, she is fascinated with our mouths, she wants to be as close to our faces as possible, with me she just sticks her head in my mouth (if I let her), my husband, she shoves her butt in his face the entire time she's with him.

I think it's a big sign of love.

Oh, I feel so honored. Not only do they lay facing away, they put it in reverse to get the exhaust pipe real close. Do cats phart...YES.

The reason your cat faces away from you with their butt in your face is because they feel comfortable having their back to you. They are predators so not facing you means they know they are safe and not under threat, they are also then watching the place for both of you ready for if something happens[emoji]128513[/emoji]

Our two latest adopted "children" are a brother and sister...Foster and Missy.  I never get a full night's sleep now.  Missy will shove her head into the palm of my hand and if I don't respond, she'll bite me. (not in a mean way).   Now foster is the lover.  He likes to be around my face.  However, he ALWAYS wakes me up literally sitting on my face!  Often he will lick my lips and under my nose.  Sometimes it feels like I'm getting a dermabrasion done.  Then he'll turn around and plant his butt right on my face.  Then he'll position himself sideways on my neck and PLOP his body down onto my face.  This is every night.  I have never had a cat do this.  I love the cuddling and attention but I could do without his little butt in my face.  I can't get angry with him though, he's just too adorable. :-)
