Is Nuts happier being an only kitty?

As ya'll know Attitude crossed the bridge on Sat and I allowed Nuts to fully inspect her body and say goodbye.

Well since then he has been seeking more of our attention and has been awake and playing a lot more than usual.

Could it be that he is happier being an only kitty? Keep in mind he has never been without a cat companion since birth.

I think if they've been used to having another cat around and they got on well, they'll miss the company?.

Sophie who doesn't like to play with Jack unless it's on her terms suprised me yesterday. Luckily i only work part time and i'm less that 5 minutes from the house, because when i got home i could hear faint meows coming from the kitchen and realised i'd accindently locked one of them in. I ran to open the door and Sophie bolted out, and the first ones she went to were Rosie and Jack where they all noses kissed each other for a couple of minutes

In general, My experience with both dogs and cats, they like having a "friend". Heck, it goes even beyond that. We have 3 aquariums, and one 20 gal is just for Goldfish. We had one, and added a second. They are so happy now having each other. They even look like they are smiling.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Maybe your cat, since he was able to see Attitude's body, understands that Attitude is dead, and since he had some closure he was able to move on and not grieve. Maybe cats and dogs grieve because they usually don't see their friend dead, they don't know their friend died, they just know 1 day their friend never came back home. Where your cat knows, and understands what happened. Just a thought, I don't know if that's true.

I think that if Attitude was "your" kitty and spent a lot of time with you, now that she is gone, Nuts is seizing the opportunity to take that place. I've seen this happen so many times in my kitty family. I usually have a favorite kitty that monopolizes my time; by that I mean that my special kitty is the first to get in my lap on the couch, the one who sleeps the closest to me at bedtime. Given that my cats are also FeLV+, my favorite eventually passes away but there is always someone else who moves into the favorite position... i never know who it will be, the cat seems to take it upon him or herself to become my favorite by their behavior, i hope this makes sense In other words I do not choose my favorite, my favorite wants to be the favorite and so assumes the behaviors of my previous favorite

this could be what is going on with Nuts
