Feeding a kitten, how much is too much?

Tiggy's active and plays a lot; but seems to always be hungry. Unless I miscalculated, he's now 9 lbs; which sounds a bit heavy for a 7 month-old kitten...yet one 3 oz can of Wellness (wet) and 1/2 a cup of Royal Canin kitten food (dry) doesn't sound like a whole lot.

I sometimes feed him a bit of Performatrin Ultra Chicken Stew when I'm home from work (as a treat) but now I'm questioning my own wisdom...today, I fed him a second can of Wellenes kitten food before leaving for work and once again I'm questioning my own decision...

How much is too much? How much is too little? He always seems to be hungry!

Many agree up to 6 months give as much as they will eat.... Some say do that till 12 months( I would be in this group )... Most canned foods have kitten instructions stating either feed as much as they will eat in a given time frame, others say up to 2 times that of an adult for a 6-12 month old)

General rule for adults 1/2 to 1 oz per lb... ie 10 lb cat gets 5-10 oz a day .... A 5 lb kitten would eat roughly this much

9lb kitten would get 9-18 oz a day... What has the vet said about his wt?

Okay now it makes sense! Thanks; you just clarified the fine-print label on the Wellness can; I misread it: I thought it said 1/2 a can per pound, it's actually 1/2 an ounce per pound!

I was like "Man, for a 9 pound cat that's 4 1/2 3 oz cans, that sounds like way too much!" D'oh!

In actual fact it's 4.5 ounces, so a bit more than the one can a day; makes more sense!

our 4 month old kitten is the same way she eats and eats, sometimes double what the can says. she basically eats all canned because since I started her on canned she has boycotted dry foods. So far her poop is good, and she isn't gaining excessive weight (infact she's somewhat skinny). As long as our samara eats we keep feeding her unless she was getting fat or had other issues. Samara is also hugely active too she never sleeps and is always bouncing off the walls.
