There's a big one just south of Dallas, and I guess they're all over the country.

Anyway, there is a Romance/Mystery series based in a fictional Renaissance Faire. The third book has just come out...and yes, this would fall in the category of "guilty pleasures."

Wicked Weaves

Ghastly Glass

Deadly Daggers

Just in passing, we have considered starting a business making magic wands with our two wood lathes and selling them at Scarborough Faire (the one south of Dallas). We thought about naming it after my mother, Olive. It would be called "Olive and Her Wands." (If you don't get the pun, consult a Harry Potter fan.)

I've never been to one but I would love it. There's one in Charlotte or maybe Concord NC about once a year. Every time I see a commercial with someone munching on a giant turkey leg, I know it's the place for me.

Who wouldn't like Ren Fair! Love 'em.
Would like to see some pix of your homemade wands.

I love them. I live for them, really. Ren faire season is one of my favorite times of the year. (generally occurs between May and October)

I've been to several different ones but two that I absolutely loved were the one in Tampa, FL, and the TN Ren Fest that's held just south of Nashville.

I love the idea of you making some wands and setting up a booth. If you want I can give you different meanings for different types of woods and crystals. I think that would be a good selling point. (Just PM me so I know to respond)

Also, from personal experience, one-item booths don't generally fair so well. You may want to look into a few other wood crafts you can make like a wizard's staff or walking sticks, etc.

It could be an amazing venture, and lots of fun. Good luck!!!

Not sure where I'd get crystals, although embedding them in a wand handle would be something to think about.

Mostly we've been using wood that I collected by dumpster diving at an exotic wood warehouse. Nothing too fancy yet.

Did anyone get the "Olive and Her Wands" pun yet?

Here's a link to the Renaissance Faire in our area:

Scarborough Faire

We have some friends who are members and performers out there.

And a list of all the Renaissance Faires in the U.S.
