Does anyone have any ideas on how to get your cat's poo to be a little softer? Just wondering.

Increase wet food consumption.

What are you feeding? How old is your kitty? Is s/he on any meds or have any chronic conditions?

I'm currently feeding Wessie wet food. He is 2 years old. No problems, he's just been having slightly harder feces.

Didn't he recently have a UTI? I'm wondering if they're related?

You could also try adding a bit of plain canned pumpkin to his wet food.

It's not really a big thing, he is pooing completely normally, it's just a little firm. And yes, he did have a UTI, but I don't think it's related.

If it's not broke don't fix it.

However if he seems just a little clogged (straining?) then you could buy some Miralax over-the-counter. Add just a little of one packet (half-a-teaspoon) to his water and mix well. He won't even notice it and it should soften things.

Or try the canned pumpkin. Make sure it's plain canned pumpkin, not spiced pie filling.

Also, if you are using clumping litter or some litter with a lot of dust or additives, he may be breathing in particles that are hardening his stools. You might try different types of litter to see if that affects the outcome, so to speak.

I mentioned the UTI and constipation link because many kitties who suffer from CRF (chronic renal failure) and/or FLUTD (Feline lower urinary tract disease) often have constipation issues as well. I have a kitty with FLUTD and CFR and she isn't constipated but she has very hard stools. She gets pumpkin twice a day as well as Miralax a couple of times a week. You can also use slippery elm bark.
