I'll mention it to the Vet. It doesn't seem to hurt him: I was examining it moving the fur back to get a better look at it and Tiggy was just giving me this lovey look, purring loudly...the surface almost looks like a small wart but I could feel a small mass underneath the skin.

Tiggy's 7 months-old and was diagnosed with Feline Herpes but would that cause skin growths? At first I was wondering if that could be his microchip, but that's usually implanted in the gruff of the neck isn't it?

I recall when he got his last booster shot the Vet gave him the shot in his hind quarters (I forget which side) and I know that the fluid can accumulate under the skin...but that was at least 3 weeks ago!

This has made me a bit paranoid, I've read those articles claiming that certain vaccines can cause tumors in cats...

Okay...based on this I should just keep an eye on it and make sure the lump doesn't get any bigger. It's not an inch big so I think it's a normal reaction to the rabies vaccine...

Didn't read the article but I know they have implicated the feline leukemia vaccine as causing vaccine related sarcoma. If he is inside only then he most likely has not and(in my not so humble opinion) should not receive the vaccine. Remember my entire group of cats inside and out are all FeLV positive and I just lost Attitude to it Sat but if he never ventures out then the risk of the vaccine outweighs the risk of infection. For cats that are outside only or are inside/outside(not supervised) they should receive it.

Herpes doesn't cause skin lumps. Attitude had feline herpes on top of the leukemia and she never had any lumps and she suffered from just about anything she could from the herpes.

Bring it up with the vet but I'd say it's most likely a normal reaction to a vaccine. I know I took Attitude in not long(less than a week) after her spay because she had a lump on her side and they told me it was just a reaction to the anesthesia and pain killer shots they gave her and it would go away on it's own(they aspirated cells from it and looked at it under the microscope, it was nothing but inflamed cells.) It did, I can't remember how long it took but I don't think it took long. By the time I took her in for yet another eye infection(and removal of a stitch that hadn't dissolved) which wasn't long after that, it was gone.
