Wellington and Biscotte - love, sex or domination?

My two love birds are as close as ever they were, and this picture, taken this afternoon, shows how they are most of the time.

BUT I am a bit concerned about Wellington's behaviour towards his companion. This sounds funny but he is constantly trying to have sex with her. I do not think it is a dominance thing - it seems mostly very affectionate and often starts with them licking each other's faces for a few minutes. And it is not always in the accepted 'cat' position - I often see them lying side by side and his body is making thrusting movements towards her. Last night on the sofa she actually slept through the whole thing on her back with her feet in the air, while he went through all the motions. At other times he gets quite rough and grabs her by the neck until she squeals. When he has had enough he sits up and washes himself very thoroughly. All this sounds Ok in a strange way, but what worries me is that he seems very sad and has a real frustrated look in his eyes afterwards as if he knows there should be more.

I spoke to the vet about it, but he said there could be nothing physical wrong as it was impossible to do a male neuter wrongly unless they had left a whole testicle, in which case, the vet would know about it and would have told me, and the cat would still be capable of full sex. He could not offer any proper explanation. So I don't know what to do and I feel silly in a way even writing about it.

Biscotte still adores her Wellington and they spend a lot of time following each other around and curled up together. So am I worrying about nothing?

Was he neutered as a kitten or had he had a chance to mature enough to at least attempting breeding?

I don't see if as dominance honestly - or at least not most of the time. He couldn't dominate a sleeping cat that doesn't even know he's there..

My Sho will sometimes do some of this towards Tomas. If they're laying together in a chair or together on the bed or couch sometimes Sho (laying on his side) will start kneading at Tomas with his back legs and seems somewhat ..er stimulated. He doesn't grab Tomas or even stare at him. Tomas usually gets annoyed because he doesn't like Sho's feet in his side or belly so when I see it I try to move Sho's feet. But otherwise I ignore it.
I don't know what to tell you. I guess as long as they're happy with each other and no one is harmed that there's nothing to worry about.

He was neutered at 7 months, so has never actually mated. He only kneads her with his back legs when they are in the normal position. The rest of the time he just kind of thrusts at her rhythmically with his hind quarters. It is him I am sorry for - he just seems so sad about it. She doesn't care most of the time, unless he is hurting her.

That would depress me if my companion didn't even notice and slept through the whole thing.

I don't know how you can really distinguish kitty depression from contentment or boredom.

I really wouldn't worry about it unless it bothers the other kitty, at which point you could just redirect him to a Tickle Me Elmo and put on Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.

Jenny, I haven't a clue! But it looks like Biscotte is kneading in that picture - does she knead sometimes when (she's awake) and he does this?

And I trust a kitty mom's instincts - but want to ask - are you sure he looks sad? Or is he just... "zoned" out - maybe?

In the pic she is not kneading - she never does, but the pic is a bit misleading as he is actually asleep on her shoulder, not doing anything. I do think he is sad - he is a very expressive cat, and I can read him quite well.

I think it's just instinct truthfully. A couple of my boys do this (Osiris does it to his own sister, Cleo. ) and Imhotep also does it to Cleo. I've noticed Nova try to do it to Pria as well. Shadey is my gay cat and trys to do it will Elliott! All of my boys were neutered between 4-6 months of age except Imhotep and Nova who were about a year old because that's how old Tep was when he was adopted and Dana hadn't neutered Nova until I came into the picture, educated him and made him have him neutered.

I do agree that it is instinct, but why should it only happen between Wellington and Biscotte? He does not try it with any of the other girls (though they sometimes groom him and sleep next to him) and of my other males only Milo occasionally jumps on someone and it is clearly dominance. So that is why I wondered if it is possible for there to be something physical with Wellington, like some hormonal tissue left inside, that gives him the urge, then she is available all the time and does not complain..

Clyde does this too, what is it with white cats? But he does it to ME!!!!! I redirect him to Snuggle Kitty, oh, and he also makes kind of weird noises when he does it too. He tries sometimes with Nadette, but does the neck bite and she doesn't like it.

I didn't like to say in my original post, but Wellington also tries it with me. I have woken up several times to find him on top of me, thrusting away, staring at me and I have thought ' Oh My God, I really AM the crazy cat lady! I am having sex with a cat!'

^Give him a pillow or stuffed toy?

For a couple weeks after Sherman was neutered he still had the hormones circulating rather high. Since he was between 2 and 3 when he was neutered he was very much a matured tom cat. He came after me... Only me noticing an odd glint in his eye and quick thinking allowed me to get a pillow in front of me in time. He'd also chase me around making terrible lovey tom cat noises. (terrible because anything other than Sherman's chirpy mews sound bad)
I'm very thankful that ended after two weeks.

You don't know HOW glad I am that I'm not the only one!

jennyranson, I'm sorry I don't have any experience with this, I just wanted to say this thread makes me lol!! The title alone makes me giggle:
"Wellington and Biscotte - love, sex or domination?", it sounds like a new movie coming to a theater near you..

Anyways, good luck to you, didn't mean to derail the thread, it's just that it cracks me up, some of the responses are priceless!!

Is it possible that this whole thing is just how their relationship is. Hes a horny lil devil and shes just like eh whatever...

I wish my situation was like that...Hercules is the biggest sissy boy ever and since Fatman passed there has never been a need to fight over dominance or alpha status, Gigi inherited the title clearly. Yet she will stalk Hercules and stand over top of him and bite his neck and then.....well we all can figure out what happens next. Poor Hercules will let out this pitiful yowl and Gigi looks like a demented cat after wards. I have started picking up on her ques and when she gets Herc in her sight I will clap really loudly and say No GiGi then she wont do it but every once in a while she will catch him when Im not around...Poor Hercules

My Boo did that to me when he was a youngin', and I redirected him to a couple of nice stuffed bunnies I bought. They were his girlfriends for a long time. No you're not the only one. I thought it was kind of weird at first then realized he probably thought I was his girlfriend, but after his hormones wore out he mostly quit.

The poor thing, after he had his P/U surgery for the crystals, he found his stuffed animal and he stared at it for a minute, stuck a paw out and touched it and made this very sad "mew" sound like, "Goodbye girlfriend, I have no use for you anymore," ..

Cats are so complex and interesting!
