*no* scratching -- a developmental issue?

What happens in skeletal/muscular development in a kitten that doesn't scratch at all?

(Her claws require trimming every week, no problem.)

How old and have you asked the vet about this?

There is nothing unique in feline physiology that makes scratching necessary for musculoskeletal health compared to every other small mammal. Thats a myth spread by crusaders to discourage declaws.

A cat can get a full body stretch completely simply by laying on its side and performing a superman. Be happy you have a cat that has little instinct to scratch.

Queen Eva didn't start scratching until she was about 3 months old. And she watched the big cats doing it first.

You can teach her how by doing it yourself, on her furniture.

Nails need trimming whether they scratch or not.

Thanks!

Vet here is useless unless something makes money for him.
(He's not mercenary, does a lot of pro bono work, and he has to finance that somehow ...)

She's roughly 18 weeks, based on dentals, but was probably runt of litter and is a bit delayed. She sustained some head injury from feral children kicking her and repeatedly near-drowning her in a swimming pool. She just last week figured out how to jump from chair to sofa, and they're about 8" apart.
