Tony is currently 5.5 to 6 months old and weighs between 6.5 and 7 lbs.
He typically eats twice a day, around 7am and 7 pm.
I have no idea what they were feeding him at the shelter, but I started out giving him dry food with a spoonful of wet, because that's all he'd eat of the wet food.
I tried a new wet food, hoping he'd like it more and now he's up to about 1/3 can of Merrick canned food, with 1/4 cup of Now! Grain Free Kitten food at each mealtime.
He usually doesn't finish the wet food even if I leave it out for a half hour. but will eat the dry food when I put it out, so i,m guessing he's still hungry.
Anyway, I'm not sure if I should just be feeding him as much dry food as he'll eat or only a set amount, because he seems to prefer it to any wet foods (ive also tried friskies and fancy feast).
Should I concentrate on transitioning to 100% wet food when he's older?

BTW, his bowel movements are fine. He seems to go sort of frequently - maybe twice a day for stool and more than that for urinations.

your help is appreciated!

That sounds like the right amount of food, if not more than enough, but each cat is unique and at that weight at 6mos he sounds like he's going to be a big boy!

I would try feeding him the wet and dry at separate meals, that way he's more hungry at the time of the wet meal and would be more willing to finish it all.

I feed my cat alternately homemade in the morning and dry at night and sometimes a combination.

My 2year old kitty is like yours, don' eat all of the food I give and seems very hungry when I offer different food.

If you want him to eat wet, you might try buying several different varieties and brands of the smaller canned food until you find one he likes. At 6 mos old, he's still growing and should be allowed to free feed during the day. I have a 6 mo old and we feed him wet 3X a day and dry approx 4 times a day. (We can't leave it out as our 2 older kitties would scarf it up!) We feed Wellness grain-free and Innova EVO venison and the cat/kitten formula canned and Taste of the Wild dry.

Young cats should be fed as much as they want. Try free feeding him and if you have other animals put his bowl out of reach.

The elimination sounds exactly as it should.
