Most of the time when my cat goes to sniff something she hits it with her nose. She did this to a friend of mine, and he suggested that she may not see well. She has never run into anything. She is six, and I don't really think so, but she does hit things occasionally when she tries to sniff them. Is that just a blind spot, like right between our eyes? Her pupils adjust to light and aren't big. She narrows them to slits and will widen them at night. Does she just have trouble knowing where things are right in front of her?

Cats cannot actually see something that is right in front of their noses, which is one of the reasons why their sense of smell is so advanced and why they depend on their whiskers to tell them if a place (a hole) is to small for them. They see peripherally instead quite well.

Six is pretty young, but you might want to have her checked for hypertension the next time she goes to the vet. That can lead to partially or completely detached retinas. My parents had this problem with an old cat (16), and we had a dog who went blind at 7 for this reason. She lived to 14, and managed quite well, but I still blame myself for waiting too long to have her poor eyesight checked out. With the proper medication, her blindness could have been prevented.
