noticing a weird behavior

Hi, I've been raising my kitten since he was just a few days old. I absolutely LOVE him! He's 6 weeks old now and such a little rascal! But I'm starting to notice a weird behavior. Today when I picked him up to carry him in my arms (which I do several times everyday), he all of a sudden goes berserk! He'll be calm for a few seconds in my arms then the next second he'll scratch my arms really hard, causing me to drop him, then he'll look scared or startled not at me, but at something beside me ... which is nothing! The same thing happened when my boyfriend tried carrying my kitten in his arms. We both feel bad that he fell from our arms. The room I keep him in (for now) is fairly quiet, so I don't know what could've startled him. Has anyone gone through a similar situation with their kitty? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!

His eye sight is getting better and he's realizing how high up he is and doesn't like it. The two of you dropping him reinforces that he's not safe up high in your arms. When you try to restrain him it only upsets him more and makes him think he must get free.
Just don't pick him up and carry him around. He'll likely never like that.

You can at least get him used to being picked up and placed on a surface - ie: from the floor to the couch, and later from the floor to a table or cat tree. But that takes time and he's going to have to relearn to trust you.

That makes sense! Thank you! I'll do just that!
