I posted a couple of months back about the kittens that I had become mommy to. Butter Bean is now 10 pounds and Lentil is at 4. They are now 5 months old.
Lentil is the one who has had developmental problems. He won't pee in the box. He will pee on anything that happens to be on the floor. And tonight I caught him IN the recliner peeing.
He plays well, eats well, plays in the water and drinks plenty. He doesn't cry when he pees. He just won't use the box. What can I do?
I would add pics of the two dolls but I don't know how on this site. You all would love them.

Has Lentil( adorable name
) seen the vet and had a urinialysis done? I have had many kitties have Utis and Only one cried while peeing...

What type of litter are you using? Have you tried different ones? What type of Potty box and how many?

He has not been to the vet yet, but I do talk with regularly. Lentil is deaf besides his other issues.
We use Wall Mart brand of scooping litter. It seems to have the least amount of dust. We have a regular cat pan with one of those lid like things that just cover the edges of the pan. It is placed at the back of the house. Just one pan, but I clean it out daily.
He got his name because his brother is the color of a Butter Bean, and that is his name. Lentil is the smallest bean we could think of at the time. His sister was named Edamane Bean just because we like the sound of the name.
Thanks for oyur help.

I advise you to do the analysis of urine to your cat. Then you can put a second litter box and you can use the very fine sand.
You can also try putting the food bowl where he dirty (where the cat eats it does not dirty.)
You can also take a paper towel stained with pee and put it in the litter to teach your cat where to go pee

I'm not sure if you've tried it, just my two cents... I put my kitten in the litter pan around the time she needed to use it and gently took her front legs and made her paws scratch through the sand. It was really wild, it only took that one time and she's used the pan ever since. She was only a few weeks old at the time.

But yes, -definitely- get a urinealysis, my Boo did the exact same thing, pee'd everywhere and we had no idea why until we took him to the vet.

Please ask the vet for a urinalysis and a urine culture if the vet says UTI present.

You may want too try a different litter in the second box .... Some cats do not do well with clay... Also If you can get to a Pet store look for Cat Attract comes in a litter and additive form

Is Lentil as tiny as weight suggests? If so you might look at storage containers, too, and find something with lower sides. Part of the issue could be that he can't get in and out as easily.

While he's at the vet getting his urinalysis ask the vet if there's a chance that he might have issues with knowing that he has to go. Maybe he's not feeling it very well or isn't able to recognize it as easily as a normal cat. If he holds urine for too long and does this too often it would cause urinary problems, too.

If that turns out to be part of the problem you may have to just take him to the litter box whenever you feel that his bladder is starting to get full and encourage him to pee. (ask your vet to show you where his bladder is and how to tell if there's urine in it)

Yes, Lentil is very small. But he has grown a lot since his mommy died. He plays and runs like he thinks he is a big kitty. He has to keep up with his big brother ya know.
I never thought of a pan with lower sides. When he was younger we had the box in the living room, and he went in it just fine. Eventually I moved the box back to the place where it is now, but it is a deeper box. Strange that he would poop in it but not pee. But I will give a different box a try.
I know he needs the vet, but it can be very expensive as I know you all know. i keep hoping I can put it off for a while longer, same with the neutering of them both.

Realize that if it is a UTI it can get worse and cause a emergency situationthat can be life threatening...

Ie vet bill of say 100$ could easily becaome a 1000$ ER vet bill

I agree Lentil needs to see the vet, but it may also be the litter box is too far away for him to get to in time. I recommend small litter boxes in every room, with cat attract litter, until he gets bigger.

Kittens can be like babies, he's just so busy with kitten business, he doesn't realize he has to pee until it's too late.

But do get him to the vet for a check up and UA.
