Ocicat playmate?

Hi, I'm hoping a breeder may know this. I have a young, male Ocicat and we are considering getting him another cat as a playmate. We are concerned that if we get another young male cat, the Ocicat will try to be the Alpha male and cause problems. Is that true, and we should look for a female cat?...or would another male cat be fine?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

IMO you can get either with an Ocicat. We have a domestic female (5 yrs old), one Oci (2 yrs old) and will be getting an Oci kitten in the spring (a male).

We had another male Oci that was 2 yrs older then our current one, but we lost him suddenly (complications from UTI) last year end of November. Oci boys tend to play rougher and we felt it would be better for Charlie to have a baby brother to wrestle with.

Now Jack will be the big brother to his future baby brother Zorro.

I don't think you'd have any real problem with an "alpha" Oci; they usually get along quite well with each other.

BTW what color Oci do you have and what color do you want - if you need help picking a breeder, I know several to recommend - all of them have kittens right now too.

Ocicats tend to get along with other cats just fine, the only issue you may have is energy levels so look for an energetic cat to keep him company (another Oci would be purrect ) personality is more important than sex.

My Oci girls have no issue with the rough-housing boys - they play very rough too!
