If you saw last night's episode then you know what I'm talking about...
Preface: I am not a regular viewer of Private Practice. It claims to be a drama, but it borders on melodrama/comedy too often for my taste. However, I happened to turn on the final scene last week and the preview actually didn't look too melodramatic so I made sure to watch it this week.
In a nutshell, Charlotte was brutally attacked and raped. Last episode ended with the man surprise attacking her as she left her office; this episode started after the attack when she was getting herself up after the attack. There was no background/filler music in the entire show which made it more real, IMO. She was in denial (had to be told she had a broken hand, wrist and eye socket before she would lie back on the hospital bed), she refused to report the rape (said she was beaten and had her wallet stolen), and refused to be seen as a "victim."
This was, by far, the most "real" portrayal of a rape survivor/story that I have ever seen. It brought me back 25 years when I was raped (nothing like this...more of a "date-rape" type situation if you can call it that with a 13 year old girl) to the point that when I was done watching the episode I went upstairs and pretty much compulsively cleaned the toilet at 11:30 p.m.
Here's a story about how the actress, KaDee Strickland, prepared for the role. I definitely have much more respect for her as an actress now.
I just wanted to talk about it, I guess, and see if anyone else saw it. Obviously my husband doesn't understand it (thank goodness!) and it happened so long before we met that he has no context of it with me.
