Hilarious litter behavior

My kitten ChooChoo seems like a neat freak, unlike his parents . He has this amusing habit. Everytime he goes peepee he covers up the spot like all cats, but if my wife or I were close to the litte box, he would double and triple check the spot and cover it up even more.

The most hilarious thing here is that last week I made a nose after he peed as if to say "it still smells" and ChooChoo immediately ran back to the litter box, covered up the spot even more and tried to smell it again as if he was trying to satisfy me.

I thought this was a one off thing but since then, I've tried the same thing a few times and every time ChooChoo would run back and try to cover up his spot again.

Man I love my little neat freak

Awww, how sweet. He wants you to know he's doing the job right.

Cats in general do seem to have funny little obsessions with their litter boxes. I never get tired of hearing about them, several of my cats have litter box obsessions too.

What a pretty red boy. My favorite.

When they do that in a multicat home it's partially a hierarchy type behavior. Upper cats are less likely to cover while lower cats are more likely to cover for everyone.
But some cats are just fastidious about their litter box. In the wild having your scent exposed would mean something would know you were there and could find you - and for a cat, chances are that something is larger.

I don't know if he got your message that the box was smelly or not. But remember, if you can smell it than your cat certainly can.

I don't mind them being so obsessive about covering, which I find kind of cute, but it's the noise of constantly covering that bugs the heck out of me.

My dear passed sweetie Midge used to cover all night long, even with me going and removing her from the box. Even with me changing the boxes before bed, she would cover for hours. I finally had to be a little angry with her to get her to stop, this lasted about 6 months and we'd have to start again.

I get such a kick of our Punky, she poops in the most startlingly bizarre fashion. She stands with her 2 front paws on the wall (like she's being frisked), one leg on the edge of the box and one kind of dangling in the air. It makes for a very noisy plopping experience if you happen to be in the utility room when she's doing it.

Funny. One of my cats, Lears covers everything over & over.

The other one, Choripan dometimes doesn't cover.

They have their box in the garage, where I also have my washer & dryer. The other day I was pulling laundry from the dryer & Choripan walks in a poops, he turns around, sniffs it & makes this face like "ewww" then looks at me as if saying "you take care of that" & walks away.

It was funny & a little degrading at the same time.
