I've been taking a break from the computer for awhile, and I've been meaning to drop by TCS for the past few days...well, now I have some news that I had to share with my fellow cat lovers, so I couldn't delay any longer.

Sophie and Jack have a new sister.

I've been wanting one more cat for ages. I get all the Facebook updates with all the adoptable cats in local shelters, and they always break my heart...just want to save 'em all. And once Sophie and Jack were fully integrated and getting along so happily - and I realized how incredibly inexpensive it is to feed and care for cats - I knew there was room for more here.

I found her today!

Her name is Kiri, and she's 5 years old. She was surrendered by her owners when someone in the household developed "sudden allergies" (the adoption papers stated it just like that, quotes and all - I have allergies and yet I keep getting MORE cats, so what gives?). She's incredibly affectionate, very easygoing and playful...if she's not head-butting or rubbing against your ankles, she's laying on her back on the floor, bunny-kicking away at one of her new toys.

Much like Jack, she was SO GRATEFUL to "come home." She hopped out of the carrier and immediately began scurrying around the room, alternately exploring and then stopping to come brush up against our legs and head-butt us like crazy. All you have to do is talk to her and she starts to purr - and she has one of those earth-rumbling purrs that you can hear from three rooms away.

Sophie and Jack appear to be taking it in stride...they've heard a few meows from the spare room, and they've smelled "strange cat smell" on me, but they're mildly curious at most. They are so happy together now, and they get along so well with the dogs - they're very laid-back kitties, I think they'll do very well. Still, I plan to take intros very slowly, if only because of Kiri's age.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures once I get them off the digital camera...she's quite the looker, calico and white (the calico markings are all on her back and the top of her head, her face, chest/belly, and legs are white) with pretty jade-green eyes.

ETA: Pic thread is here.

You are the CLASSIC example of that quote by Ernest Hemingway:

"One cat just leads to another"

Congratulations to all of you, and especially to Kiri.

Welcome back, and congratulations on the new addition!! Sounds like she's settling in nicely already. Best of luck with intros!

I've never heard that quote, but the man knew what he was talking about! Honestly, I'd go out and adopt 3 more if it wasn't for the likely possibility that I'll be living in an apartment at some point. They're just so much FUN! All those years that I didn't have a cat, I had no idea what I was missing out on...so I guess now I have to make up for lost time.
