Hello all!
I'm a big believer in forums and online communities, so I'm excited to be here.
A little about me: I grew up with a black and white shorthair car named Rockelle (Rocky for short), who was rescued on a farm as the runt of the litter. She lived to be about 12 years old before she passed on from kidney disease. She meant the world to me, because she was with me through my parents' divorce and all the bad memories that led up to it. Now, it's been 11 years since she left us and I'm excited to finally be a cat owner again!
About a month ago, after a bad (and rare) tornado in my neighborhood, my boyfriend and I visited the local shelter. Shortly after, we left with our handsome black and white shorthair kitten who had been separated from his cat family during the storm. His name is Tony because, well... We're from Noo Yawk... Ayyyy!
He's 5 1/2 months old and 6.5 lbs in weight. The day I brought him home, he developed a kitty cold that he contracted from the shelter. He got better in about a week and a half after a prompt visit to the vet and has been eating well and steadily gaining weight ever since
.
The best way to describe him is: A very energetic mush. He has TONS of energy, is constantly on the go, following me around, exploring every nook and crevice and he thinks EVERYTHING is a toy. But then he likes to relax with us and give kisses like crazy, too. He loves when I get right in his face and nuzzle him and he loves to make bread on my neck (which is a lot more bearable for me, now that his nails are trimmed a bit!)
He has a few oddities: Sometimes he sounds like he's howling or yelping... almost dog-like. He's pretty vocal and has random bursts of energy, but I'm starting to think that's normal for a healthy kitten.
I'm loving learning about how to train him, feed him and love him.
He eats twice a day - once at 7 am and again at 7 pm. Each feeding, he gets:
1/3 can of Merrick cat food
1/4 cup of Now! Grain Free Kitten Food (Dry)
The litter I'm currently trying is Arm & Hammer All Natural Clumping Litter.
I'd love input on any or all of these products I'm using!
Finally, here are some shots of my handsome boy:
Nice to meet you all!
