4.5 year old cat has become indoor feral

We have 4 cats, two are half siamese littermates, brother and sister. The other 2 are half brothers, same mother and who knows who dads were. The half brothers were both born in a feral cat colony, one is 5 years old and the other is 4.
The older of the two was about 10 weeks old when I rescued him, he has never behaved feral in his life. The younger one has always had a feral streak in him. He lived for the most part in our bedroom and was slowly overcoming his fears. Two months ago he went on a planeride with my stepdaughter to live with her in California. He spent most of his time there hiding behind the couch but would come out to spend time with her. Then she had to go away for three weeks and asked a neighbor to spend time with him and feed him. Since then he would only come out at night to eat and hissed everytime she tried to pick him up.
Today she came back home and brought the little guy back with her. To keep him from running and hiding under the bed I have put him in a large dog crate with food, water and litterbox in the livingroom, I have also covered the crate with a blanket.
The rest of our cats are not sure what to make of having him back as they never really liked him.
So my questions re these, what else can I do to help him to regain his confidence and trust in us? What else can I do help him to longer be an indoor feral cat? How long should I keep him confined and away from the other cats?

Poor guy has been through a lot the lately. Cats in general like routine, if you disrupt that too much you'll have to spend time making it up to them. Is there any reason he was moved around so much? (Just my opinion - it's not something I'd want to do a lot of with a very skittish cat)

To reintegrate him you should slowly do so over a couple of weeks. Here's thread and also within it is a link to an article you should read over.

Let him out of the crate and let him have the bedroom and bed to hide under. He'll feel better that way.
Also get some feliway diffusers for the home.

Kind of random.. As best as any cats, do, I suppose. Maybe better than some cats do since I didn't realize until recently that so many on here have at least one or two cats in the house hold that hate the other cats.

The feral born kittens are tame, though they have their skittish moments. They surprised me a few weeks ago by coming out to investigate my father when he was visiting. They were also very interested in watching the trick or treaters through the window that overlooks the front porch.
I let them hide if they feel like it.

Everyone else has their moments. Siri hates all the other cats (though suspiciously snuggles them in bed) and gave Tomas a couple scratches to his nose the other day because he was trying to pick on her.

(odd that you ask me - unless you've seen some of my other post and thought "hey another linux user on this forum" )

Hi Strange_Wings,

Yes I have seen the posts about your other cats. But I could not not find one to ask you on. So I just did it on this one. But yes you being another Linux user helps .

All I can say is Shadow my five year old female HATES my other cats. So I would be glad all your cats get along reasonable well .
