URGENT= Before he gets himself killed.

My cat, we love him so much, he is an angry huge thing.

He is so big, he can take down and kill - yes kill a fox. He has done it before, and has done it again. I heard the fox call earlier in the night. He heard it, went out, nothing I can do to stop him.

A few hours later, he runs in through my window, with something as big as him, my other cats ran towards him, it was like it was christmas for them, they all had a fair bit of him.

Their is now blood all over hte room, I have moved into my sisters bed room, who is staying at my other sisters house.

How do I stop him from doing this? I can handle mice, and small birds.

How did I know he didn't pick up a dead fox? well, simply I don't for sure, but the fox was still alive, warm, and had its neck ripped out.

He brought in a bird (large) earlier, its wing span much be a good meter.

Don't let him out??

Or simply don't let him roam. Take him out on a harness and leash or build an enclosure for him. Could you imagine if someone had a rabbit hutch or pet birds outside in the summer and he got in and killed them? Then the owners came after you...

Know how big he is?

If he was a human, he would be about 7ft tall, about 350pounds of muscle. Who has a bad temper. If he wanted to do something, would you stop him?

I can't feed my other boys if he is around, he dose not like their food, but stops them from eating it.

He's a cat, you're a human. And yes, I would, because he could end up seriously hurt or you could end up with people very angry at you.
I have a couple that stay outside in a cat proofed fence. They would be a nuisance to my neighbors otherwise - pooping in their yards, flowerbeds/gardens, jumping on vehicles, and sadly MewMew would try to fight any cat she could and would do her best to seriously injure those cats. (she's a bit crazy)

Do you have an existing fence around your backyard? If so you can look into ways to cat proof it. If not you can look into enclosing a back porch or section against the house that he can go into freely.

Ultimately he's your responsibility and with a cat you simply can't sit them down for a talk about their behavior.

If the problem is simply that he brings dead things inside, don't leave the window (or cat door) open. Make him ask to come in, that way you can see what's with him before he drags it all over the house.

As for the hunting, unfortunately, other than keeping him contained somehow, there's no way to keep him from doing it. That's just something he likes to do, evidently. It's amazing he can take down a fox. . .they're usually a pretty good match for a cat and so foxes and cats generally leave each other alone. Good thing you don't have coyotes there.

Is he neutered? From your post, I would bet not. I would either keep him inside or put him outside in a protected area. You run the risk of losing him if he keeps up with his behavior and if you don't vaccinate, he could easily get rabies if it is around where you live.

I'm not sure how to help you but I want to say I'm impressed by this cat's skill and bravery, or maybe attitude is the word. What amazing predators they are. My youngest cat would appreciate your cat's latest kill. When Seti was a kitten something tried to eat him and we're 99% sure it was a fox.

Maybe your cat would be a good candidate for rehoming, maybe at a barn in the country? If you're open to that.

Thank you for the posting. Normally when they seize large prey like that, they are toms and a bit brazen.

He's not that long neutered and his habits seem to be quite well set. I've neutered a ~ 6 year year old tom several years ago that while his grumpy attitude and fighting decreased he still acted much like he did before the neuter.

More history on gaogier's kitties, though: When he first joined he had issues with them because they weren't neutered (he feared surgery complications). Everyone urged him to do it and he finally relented. Since then he's been trying to figure out the in or out question.

Oh my goodness, is he related to my Harvey? I thought I had problems. This sounds like you can't really keep him in if he's that aggressive and he is nuetured like my Harvey which is supposed to help, obviously not in this situation. Crikey, a fox, yep I would have thought would have been a good match for a cat but the suburban foxes aren't usually wild so they aren't that aggressive. I cannot be of much help as I've had alot of problems with Harveys aggression and had to ask advice, I cannot keep Harvey inside but I sort of have it under control at the minute. I use various techniques but your cat sounds almost feral. Maybe keep doors and windows shut when your kitty is outside so that you don't get any unwanted pressies. As for killing the fox I don't think there would be any repercussions on that from anybody else.Good luck with finding a solution.x

Give him a collar with a bell so he'll have little chance of sneaking up on anything.
