I'm aware that a cat grooming a human is a good sign.
But what does it mean when the cat wants to do this all the time?
When I walk around, she runs between my feet; when I stand still, she repeatedly "love bites" my ankles.
Am worrying that I'm too much like the "wire mother" in Harlow's rhesus monkey experiments -- some of the babies reacted to the "rejecting" surrogates by grooming them.
I've thought about trying to spend *more* time with her, and have tried to sleep on the sofa for part of the night (she's not permitted in bedroom) but her licking and biting makes this really unpleasant for me. Have considered trying to find a playmate about her age, and last night dreamed about visiting a group of adoptable kittens only to be nipped by them!
Could this be just a stage? She's ca 18 weeks but seems a bit delayed, has just learned to jump small distances. Also hasn't exhibited any scratching behaviour even when encouraged.
ETA: she overgrooms a bikini triangle on herself, and used to suckle herself to the point of scabbing.
