Possible Pregnancy?

For the past few days my friend and his cat has been staying at my place. His cat is roughly a 7 month old female, non spayed. I thought it would be fine due to the fact that my male kitten (Zephyr) was desexed on the 19th of october.

The first night she was constantly hissing at him cause he wouldn't leave her alone, but we couldn't figure out why. She refused to leave her hiding spot underneath one of my arm chairs until Zephyr was put into another room. It was only on the second night that we figured out that she was on heat because she was presenting herself. That same night I woke up to get a drink and I found them doing it in the kitchen.

This morning they were still doing it. By 1pm she had completely changed, no longer was she hissing at him but being accepting of him. She's out from her hiding spot and no longer presenting herself. It's 4:30 pm now and they've both been asleep for the past few hours. I've done my research and yes it says its impossible for a female cat to be impregnated by a spayed male. But I also read that after a human vasectimy (sp?) that the sperm will still live inside for 2 - 3 months. I'm worried she might have possibly become pregnant from Zephyr's left overs.

Your friend needs to get his cat spayed asap.

Neutered males can be fertile for up to six weeks (I have read about even longer periods) after neutering, so the info that it is impossible for a neutered male to impregnate a female is not valid for recently neutered males.

When the female is spayed the vet can remove the uterus and thus any fertilized eggs that might be present.

Males can be fertile for up to 2 months after neutering. As said above, your friend needs to get his kitty fixed as soon as possible.

Even if he's not still fertile, the act of mating will bring her out of heat. This is why many breeders will keep a vasectomized male around so their females aren't constantly in heat.

She should be spayed ASAP. Since she's out of heat now it'll be easier for the vet, and sometimes they charge extra for cats in heat, so that can be avoided now.
