I cannot believe it. I started trapping again on Friday evening. Had not done in a year, Neighbors were feeding the cats and one crazy wanted to catch them in a carrier. So I put on the tradition trap. First night, a 12-month old kitten. Second night, Henry the four-year-old Tom who had eluded my traps and those of the shelter that tried to help. He is at the shelter and will be fixed and examined. I found a shelter about 30 miles away that will take him. The woman is very experienced with ferals.
Night two and three. Two more kittens.
And then the sad part of my story. A nine-month-old male who got out of a malfunctioning trap was missing for five days. I saw him last night. He was holding up his rear leg and crying. I fed him and he retreated into my garage. We tried to catch him with a net this morning to no avail. I pulled the car out carefully and set two traps. I hope he will go in. He is injured but I could not look at his leg carefully in the dark last night. Plus, he's black.
This evening I got a third kitten. I nearly cried. It's mother sat next to the trap and looked at me with soleful eyes. I snuck the kitten inside when she wasn't looking.
I have set up a drop trap for her. Wish me well.
