Do YOU have pet insurace?

Hey guys,

I am looking into getting pet insurance, but i'm not sure if it will be worth it.
This is one of the companies I was looking into:

https://www.trupanionpetinsurance.com/Enroll

I'm considering this because these are the things
He will need in the future:

FeLv/Fiv/Heartworm blood test-

Urine Analysis/Test-

Possible Antibiotics/Medication-

Possible UTI food-(If crystals are found)

Advantage Multi- (2 more rounds)

FVRCP Vaccine- (booster)

THE BIG NEUTER (once hes healthy)

So with everything im going to need to get done, would you guys reccomend I get Pet Insurance for a while?- Im wondering if I can get it for just a few months to cover everything and then un-enroll myself if/when he is healthy.

( I realize that URi's will come back in times of stress but I cant afford $30 a month on top of internet, phone bills etc. for years and years.

If I can get it for a short time that would be much better- But im not sure if i can do this)

So anybody have good/bad experiences they'd like to share?

Thanks!

If he's already been diagnosed as having a previous UTI, they might not cover the UTI stuff. It would be considered a pre-existing condition, but I would look at the terms more closely.

I thought about it for my two, but in the end DH and I just budget a set amount each month for all cat necessities. By the time their yearly shots and checkups come around, we have quite a bit of $$ set aside in the fund to cover all those costs. We don't have to file paperwork, hassle with a company to get our money, etc.

Just make sure you do plenty of research. Only you know the best decision to make.

Good luck!

I have the Wellness Plan with Banfield. Has saved me over $5500 since 2007. The cats get two 'free' comprehensive exams per year valued at $138/each, the plan only costs $200/yr per cat, so I already am ahead with just the exams. Free vaccinations, office visits, etc. Only ever really have to pay for medications and any type of "extra" outside the plan. It's worked out great for us, especially when I was a paranoid kitten owner, and when Nero had his chronic URI when we got him.

I absolutely have pet insurance - it takes a lot of stress out of worrying how to pay for emergency/medical stuff - if 30.00 a month is hard, imagine a whopping vet bill with no insurance Sadly far too many people choose to let their pet suffer and die because of money...Insurance eases that issue.

We had talked about it, but we just have money set aside for their care and vet bills for dentals and such. Out of our six, four are considered geriatric, so any kind of insurance wouldn't work for them anyway at this point.

Pets are apparently seen as luxury items in Tokyo, as most people who can afford apartments that allow pets are rich. Not us! Our vet told us that some really high percentage of pets are covered under insurance in Japan, so we checked it out. Not going there! It does not cover preexisting conditions, preventative medicine, anything dental, no yearly exams, and it was about $60/month cheapest place. I said "Well, what DOES it cover?!?!" It is for pets who get in accidents and pets who attack people!!
Personally, we just do what a lot of others have posted - set aside money each month (as much as we can - some months more, some less). But in the US, there was a great insurance program that I looked at. Sorry, I don't remember the name - we never bought it, because we moved to Japan right after I found it. My advice - shop around! Ask your vet what is best if your vet is good. Do what is best for you, though!
