My new cat that we decided to adopt yesterday was eating kitten proplan dry only at the vet's where I adopted him because the wet food was giving him wet smelly stools at one point. When we brought him home he was eating a mixture of Wellness core and kitten Proplan (I was trying to transition my other cat so I mixed two small bags of each together until it ran out and I could get just the core.) However, since this cat is only 5-6 mos. old, I want to start him on a wet food to help prevent urinary issues and blocks in the future.
I have several questions about this. It says Wellness Core dry is all life stages, but should I still add a kitten canned food to his diet until he turns one years old for extra nutrients? I don't want him stunted anyway in growth or anything and would like him to have whatever a kitten needs. This is because I would also prefer not to keep my other cat on a dry kitten diet for another 5 months till the little one is ready to switch. It is a lot easier to feed canned separately than dry free choice. I have the suspicion that because they were trying to adopt him out by putting him in a cage in the lobby for viewing they didn't want it to smell up there so that's why they didn't do canned, not because it was truly an issue with his digestive system. In any case though, just in CASE, since he HASN'T been on wet food in a while, do you think I should transition him slowly onto it, so as not to stress his digestive system? my other cat begs and begs for wet food and I was only giving it to her when he wasn't here (I was bringing him home for visits cus he was lonely at the vets) and I don't want to deprive him or her, if one gets fed the other is going to too, it is just easier for me too.
That's all I can think of for now. I might add another question or two if I think or any.
