I have four kitties. And, as far as I'm concerned, that is the perfect number for me.

Cassidy

I adopted Cassie first. She was about 10 months old at the time. I had lost my kitty Henry and knew that I needed another cat in the house. She is my love. And, she's such a pretty girl. She is a ginger and white DLH.

Delaney

Laney came second. I was content with Cassidy, but it was obvious that she needed a companion of her own variety. Delaney is trouble through and through, but she's a sweetie as well. She was 9 months old when I adopted her and is a brown tabby with white DSH.

Emory

I adopted Emory third. I had just wanted another kitty and she was the one. She was 1.5 years old at the time and had had a rough start to life. But, she's a good girl. She is a lovely DSH tortoiseshell.

Finnegan

I didn't go out looking for Finn. He came to me from a situation where he would've been tossed outside. And, for a kitty attacked by something that left him for dead at 2 weeks, but who survived, I couldn't let that happen. And, I couldn't imagine my life without him in it. He just turned a year old (was adopted at 6/7 weeks) and is a ginger and white DLH.

I also have a toy fox terrier who is 5 (Halloween is her birthday!) named Madeline, a 6 year old rat terrier/mix named Mackenzie, a 2 year old cockatiel named Duncan, a little robo hamster named Darby (he's almost a year old, I think) and 2 baby gerbils named Daisy and Delilah. So, yes, I have a full house now
. But, I love it!

We have six RugCats:

The following four are all related:
Whisper (16) - an all-grey girl, Mom to BooBoo and Ms. Pepe
Bootser (16) - a little tuxedo with a very loud mouth!, sister to Whisper
BooBoo (14) - the resident male, a large tuxedo with the coolest eyes and quite the character, he is Whisper's son
Ms. Pepe (14) - sister to BooBoo, she is Whisper's daughter and a gorgeous tortie

Amber Louise (7) - a little orange tabby, she's our phantom-kitty, only really seen by DH and me and a very few close friends. She stays hidden when company comes.

And last, but not least.....
Mollipop (almost 9 months) - a brown tabby who came to live with us at the end of March as a teeny, little kitten, and who now weighs over 8 pounds, she has become quite the Princess and is well on her way to becoming a Queen. (She's her Mama's little girl)

One and a half: Jamie, our 11-year-old Tuxedo, and Miezi, a 10-year-old Silver Tabby we share with our neighbor. Miezi was a stray who chose to rehome herself here, over Jamie's objections. They hate each other and thus she's shared with the neighbor, who really didn't want and couldn't afford another cat after her fur baby died. Jamie is an indoor cat who has an enclosed balcony and goes for a walk in a harness every day; Miezi is indoor-outdoor, and goes between our houses, but always spends the night at the neighbor's.

We have 6 at the moment. Funny, a couple of years ago we were down to 3 and I told DH 'no more cats!' Of course, I brought the next 3 in myself.

Jack-8 y.o. orange and white tabby
Rufus-6 y.o. gray and white of unknown origin, probably DSH
Katie-4 y.o. gray tabby
Charlotte- 4 y.o. chamagne colored with long hair and the classic tabby M on her forehead, not sure what she is, but she looks like a tiny lion
Bridget- 4 y.o torbie (sister to Charlotte)

I'm so glad to see I'm not alone in the lot's of cats club

I also have 8 plus 2 ferrets
Arlokk is 11 or 12
Aura is 3
Scratchez is 2
Max is 2
Jack is 2
Bear is 2
Gabe is 1
Ezra is 5 months

Lokk was a stray who came in from the rain one day and never left.

Aura and Scratchez came from the same lady who had lots of cats that she fostered so we adopted them since she had such a hard time finding homes.

Max, Jack and Bear were rescued from a being abandoned in a box on a golf course. Their brother found a home but these three babies were apparently destined to lives with me.

Gabe was the kitty in a cage at the shelter that my SO fell in love with. Gabe just adores him.

Ezra is our last addition and was adopted because he had been in the shelter for his whole little life so far and not being the cutest kitten in the world and being a black cat his chances were slim. Every time I came in to visit he would meow his head off till I took him out of the cage and snuggled with him. I feel so bad because his brother is still in that cage even though I have told everyone I know about him because we are at our absolute limit now

We also have Sophie and Rachel the ferrets who are both under 6 months old and are more naughty then 8 cats put together

I have my one and only Autumn and she has all the love and caring I can give her. I know some people who have multiple cats and favors only one. The rest never seem to get enough love and that's just not fair. Some people just never learn.

You could start something here that probably isn't intended.

Each of our 8 cats get all the attention and lovin' we can give. Especially the cat we have to keep confined because he has been diagnosed with FeLV. He gets 2-3 hours of my devoted time every day, and has a door that he can watch the comings and goings of the active hallway when no one is in his room.

The Gray Family is in the family room where we spend a lot of our time. Even though Gray's "wife" and "children" are still afraid of us, they are gradually warming up to our presence. The thing here is, there was little choice in keeping them - it was either try to find another home and separate them - which would be next to impossible in this economy - try to get them into a no-kill shelter - another impossibility - where they would likely spend most of their lives inside a small cage, or send them to the local kill shelter ... so,

I kinda take issue with your well-intentioned comment that The rest never seem to get enough love and that's just not fair. ... you see - whatever love and attention I CAN give them is better than several alternatives, not to even speak of the difficult lives that ferals have outside and on their own.

This is what I've learned, and this is why we have more than one cat.

I hope you understand that I am just trying to give you another side to your comment - food for thought, perhaps.

I'm glad you and your Autumn are content and happy. You're doing what's best for you.

Be well,
g

Yes, it is possible that some of mine don't get enough attention. I do my best but I'm sure now and then one goes without. However, if I didn't have them, they would be DEAD. There are very few options for unwanted cats, especially adults. And I'm sure most cats would prefer being alive, even if they don't think they get enough scritches, rather than being dead. Like GloriaJH said, maybe that's not how you meant that comment, but that's my stock answer to the "too many cats" debate. In my case it just can't be helped. It's not like I went out and got 20 cats on purpose.

Of course, right now I have 7 cats draped all over me, so I think they're feeling pretty secure, LOL!

Truly a loaded statement.

I find it ironic that somebody who's only ever had one cat at a time can say something like that about people with multi-cat households. Some people never learn, indeed.

Each cat gets the attention that he or she needs at any given time. There are times when I have three or four cats on my lap at one time. There are times when all six cats will be back in bed with DH and me. We never sit down without at least two cats with us. There is plenty of food to go around, plenty of cuddles, and plenty of love.

You're doing what's best for you and Autumn....we're all doing what's best for our kids, too. Kindly remember that.

I agree 100% All of my kitties get all the love and attention they want. Now some of my cats are more affectionate than others for sure, but the ones who are more timid or independant, I will actually seek them out just to give them special lovin' or treats, but if a cat comes to me at any time for love or attention, they get it, and many times I have lots of kitties on me as well. I love it, THEY love it too. I have had many people comment on how happy, well adjusted and healthy my kitties are. I'm proud of that.

I LOVE that many people on here have multiple cats. I was showing this thread to Dana last night just to prove to him that we are not the only crazy cat people.
