I don't know if there is anyone here (or anyone's SO) who has been following this movie and the viral marketing. My husband has been following it before it was even in production.
The movie actually comes out 12/17/2010.
We were lucky enough to go to the preview of it last Thursday - 23 minutes of footage from the first half of the movie as a sneak peek.
Let me say, first off, I never saw Tron (the original 1981 movie) until I met Earl. It's a decent movie: good story line, special effects were great for 1981 but cheesy now, looking back at what has happened with the internet and all it's really amazing how they envisioned it then. So I like it but I'm not obsessed. Never have been.
Tron:Legacy isn't a remake; it's a sequel done 30 years later. And from all we've seen through the viral marketing and now this preview - it's done well. Amazing as it seems.
The special effects have finally caught up with "The Grid." The visuals are stunning to say the least. The story is actually engaging, revolving around Kevin Flynn's son, Sam. And you don't have to have be a computer geek to appreciate it this time around. Of course, by 1981 standards we're all computer geeks now!
If you were into Tron and want to know what the in-between story is, check out http://www.flynnlives.com/ to get filled in. Or just wait until 12/17 and see the new one. It actually looks like it will be worth your money to see it. We saw 23 minutes of choppy scenes and everyone left wanting more.
P.S. It is in 3D. I couldn't handle Avatar in 3D, not even the preview. It made me nauseous. This one I could watch with no problems.
