I don't know. A situation has developed. My friend's daughter is 7 months pregnant and has to moved back home with her parents. She has a cat that she has to rehome. My friend (her mother) has 9 cats and a colony of ferals in her backyard that she cares for. There is no room for this cat. Poor thing.
I made the mistake of looking at a photo of her today and that was it. I was in love.
She is a small, chubby, mostly white little girl. My friend says she's very quiet and laid back, about 7 years old. A lap cat.

What's going to happen to her? My friend said they would have to take her to a shelter!!! I don't understand how you can have a cat for 7 years and give it up. What would that poor cat think? Where's my mommy? What did i do wrong? Doesn't she love me anymore? I tear up thinking about this...
So I told them to bring her here tomorrow and I would love to love her. We haven't met yet. I don't need to meet a cat to love them. I'm excited about this you guys. I've missed the greeting purrs at the door when I get home and I've missed the furry dancing around my ankles in the early mornings. This is it--a new baby. Her name is Emmy and I will introduce her to all of you tomorrow..wish me luck!!

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I think Bella is looking down and bringing this girl to you... she sounds like a sweetheart.

I've also never understood how people can just give them up after so long... the girl I'm most likely going to adopt today was found near one of the local municipal airports... abandoned. At 4 years old. I wonder about humanity sometimes... but at least there's folks like us who open our hearts and homes to those felines in need.

I definitely want to see pics of Emmy... good luck!

Oh, please just do it! You want to. Sounds like you are meant for each other.

As for people giving them up, I have a hard time understanding it myself. I'd have to be homeless myself to do it.

At the shelter where I volunteer they have a policy that adopters can (actually pledge to) bring back cats and dogs if at any point they can't keep them. Lately, people are bringing them back after 10 years! It's the economy. If you can't feed yourself and your children, you can't feed your dog or cat. It's like people giving their children to orphanages in the 1930's. There are cats now at the shelter because their owners went to homeless shelters, nursing homes, or domestic abuse shelters. I feel so bad for these animals, many of whom are older and have little chance of adoption. Most people think a cat over age 5 is too old to adopt. I've had many cats live, healthily, to age 18 and more. So 5 is young to me. Thankfully, there is a rescue organization near by "Young at Heart Pet Rescue." Every few months they come and take some of the more elderly cats and dogs. Somehow they are able to place them. I am soooooo glad.

Anyway, I hope you decide to get her and that you two are very, very happy together!

Oh I'm so glad you are able to take the poor little thing. Actually, since she's going to you is is NOT a poor little thing.

What kind of person can give up a cat after 7 years indeed. Well, I am going to look at it this way, if she can give this cat up, she must not have been too bonded to her in the first place so the little girl will be able to adjust and bond with you without too much trouble. I pray and hope.

Can't wait to hear about Emmy when she gets home! FOREVER home.

Emmy sounds adorable! Butzie was a shelter cat who obviously had an owner. I never figured out how anyone could let such a sweetie go! Congrats!

Cheryl, the situation is soooooo sad - but Emmy is one lucky little girl! I feel heartbroken for her on the one hand - but I'm all smiles on the other, because I believe everything happens for a reason. I know she won't replace
Bella
because it just doesn't work like that. But she'll need lots of love to get over the hump - and you need a kitty to love.

Can't wait to see pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like Emmy has a wonderful new mommy!!!
I'm soo happy you're going to take her home with you. You are an angel for taking her; it honestly sounds like a match made in heaven!!
Good luck with transitioning her into your home!

P.S. if you find that she's a little freaked out at first (hopefully not!), Feliway/ComfortZone difusers work wonders with kitty nerves and you can find them at places like Petsmart & Petco if you think she might need one.

So happy to hear that you are taking in this poor kitty. I hate how people just toss their animals out after so many years. But she is going to be so much luckier to have you as her true forever home
Cant wait to see pictures!
