Some of you may remember that I thought I was going to have to put Dusty down a few months ago. She has CRF that was diagnosed about 2 years ago. She had lost a tremendous amount of weight and was under 6 lbs. Then last spring she developed a horrid ear infection. After one course of meds that wasn't improving, the vet sedated her to look inside her ears. They were completely blocked. So she went on different meds. She lost even more weight, was dehydrated, her fur was falling out, and she appeared to be at death's doorstep. Even the vet said I should consider putting her out of her misery, and at that suggestion I dissolved into tears.
So fast forward a few months. She has put on weight. I no longer feel her bony spine like I did. The fur has grown back around her neck and behind her ears. She has a spring in her step. She is eating like mad - twice what she used to eat! She is like a kitty reborn! I am not treating her CRF because I want her to enjoy whatever time God gives her, and I don't want to force feed her or stick needles in her.
She is now eating 1 can of Friskies a day plus Kirkland dry and every other day or so I give her one cube of raw chicken liver for her anemia. She is happy and affectionate once more, and I have my old friend back. I couldn't be happier!
