Mother's breasts hard.

The kittens are for the most part eating on their own now. But the mother's breasts are hard and warm to the touch. Is this anything to be worried about?

How old are the kittens? This can happen in mother cats that are full of milk and suddenly have no kittens to nurse, but should not happen in a still nursing mother cat.

Get her in to see the vet ASAP. It's possible there could be an infection that could make the kittens ill should they nurse.

They're 6 weeks, and don't nurse anymore.

The kittens got sick and stopped nursing, and after taking them to the vet and giving them medicine, they didn't want her milk so they only eat kitten food.

I think you might be right, since they got sick, they stopped nursing quite suddenly so her breasts are probably filled. Will they dry up soon?

That depends. It's still a good idea to have her checked by a vet since this could make her sick and she will be in some pain from it.

They are already softening, and she isn't in any pain, quite the opposite in fact. She purrs a lot more now.

If you still recommend taking them to the vet, I'll ask my friend, but I'm not sure if he could afford it, the kittens really took a chunk out of his money. Is there anyway to dry them up faster so we could confirm whether it's an infection or not?

Many cats will purr in PAIN as well as when happy...
Mama cat could get spayed soon also ... Time for the vet NO one on here can tell you what is wrong as we are NOT vets nor can we see the kitty in ?...

It's extremely important that you get the kitty to the vet sooner rather than later. Their is a high probability that she's got an infection and is in extreme pain. If left untreated, it could lead to further complications which will be even more expensive than a regular vet trip.

If it is mastitis, she could likely die. Best to get her checked out AND spayed.

If it is the same on Monday my friend said we'll take her in for a checkup and to get spayed.

Thanks for the help!

I hate to tell you this. If it is Mastitis, you might not have until Monday.

I doubt it's that. Her breasts have shrunk a lot in the last few days. They're still a little hard, but only the bottom two. Her other ones have already softened up. We'll still take her in soon to get spayed though.
