This morning I found a new cat sleeping on my couch. With the cooler weather I'd left a window open without a screen.

She's very thin, so has been on the streets a long time, but is incredibly friendly, so I know someone is missing their kitty. Tempted to keep this sweetie myself, but I'd like to find her people and get her home.

She's eating well in my care, and surprised me by keeping all that food down despite looking so sickly. I think she's in good health other than having been without food.

I'm on Rockhurst Rd between 53 and Pinecrest in Bolingbrook.

I'd appreciate any help finding her people.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new resident!
I suppose you've done all the "normal" stuff, posted pics, posted on Craig's List, gone to the vet to see if she's chipped, and all that?

All that other than craigslist. Will do now.

The vet didn't find a chip, but did find a fever and foot infection. He's now on antibiotics, and I met a guy at the vet who wants to adopt him if I don't find his people.

You're a good man - if someone does respond from Craigslist, I'd be very very careful about releasing him to the person - unless they can document a good long search and somehow verify that the cat is theirs. No, I don't trust Craigslist for much, can you tell?

But seriously, there's a special place in heaven for you.

I'll be careful with anyone, and won't release the cat from my care until after Halloween.

Kitty has now had six packets of Whiskas, and a fistful of Iams dry. Sure has a healthy appetite.

When I adopted my boy, he'd been picked up as an adult stray. When I first got him home, he ate like crazy. I eventually figured out that he was afraid that another meal was never going to come. Eventually, he slowed down once he realized that I wasn't going to let him down.

Again, bless you for your time and money spent on this boy.

I wish I could, but I'm out of work, being foreclosed, and am already responsible for two cats in addition to a room full of snakes for my side-business. I can't take on the additional expense and responsibility. I sure am enjoying hanging out with him though.

The guy that wants to take him seems reliable. I did meet him at a vets office, so I know he takes his pets in for checkups.

I've named the kitty Tim, like Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol since he's so skinny and has a foot/leg problem. A name was required at the vet.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm going through a tough time in my life, and the positive feedback is nice.

I think this is probably the case, but there's now food left on the plate from his eighth packet of Whiskas. He might actually be satiated.

You might ask the vet's office for a reference on the guy who said he'd take Tim. Even if someone claims him from the post on CL, don't hesitate to say no if you have ANY doubts.

I hate craigslist.

I'm glad you got him to the vet. That's great that he has someone who wants him, I agree with the advice that you ask vet clinic staff about this person before agreeing.

I saw you in the other forum, I'm the one who recommended you check findtoto.org to see if he was listed.
What a sweet blackie boy he is.

Awwwww! I'll add my voice to this. Thanks for taking care of him.....especially around Halloween.

He looks so contented and relaxed, like he knows he's safe!

The vet checked for worms, and I'm happy to report the results were negative. I was surprised considering that he's been on his own for a very long time.

Tim continues to eat like a pig, and seems to be doing well.

Thanks for the update - if there is karma, I'm certain that you will be rewarded for your good deeds and good heart.

I think that's a great idea to check with the vet about this guy - he's probably a good person, and a responsible owner since you met him at the vet's office, and in that case he'll appreciate that you checked a little bit before transferring custody, if that's what happens.

I'm not a believer in the supernatural at all, including karma, but I'm directly rewarded by how happy helping this kitty makes me. It just feels good to help the helpless.

Just wondering if there's any update on this kitty and its potential new owner.

Hi Stephanie,

He has an infection on his ankle, which has been treated with injected antibiotics. He was running a fever yesterday, but he feels cooler now.

He continues to eat more than my two cats together, and while he'll take a while to gain the weight back, he seems to have filled out a little and his legs are looking stronger. He was a bit wobbly.

He's curled up, purring on my chest right now. He's comfortable here, so as long as his people don't turn up, I'm going to hold onto him until he's fit and ready to go to a new home.

I've started posting signs at pet shops looking for his people in addition to all the calls I've made to shelters, animal control, and vets.

If when he's strong, the new guy wants to adopt him, I'll ask him to meet me at the vet and pay half for blood-work and vaccinations before I hand Tim over.

This is a really special cat, and I'll make sure he's in a good home.

Bless you for caring for him. I really wish you were in a position to just adopt him yourself if no one claims him, but you're doing a great thing by making sure he gets vet care and recovers nicely.

So do I. I'm completely in love with this adorable cat.
