I was given Duralactin Fel with L-Lysine by the vet on Monday, but she sounded like they would be also eating normal food after sleeping. Yet now, two days later they still won't eat kitten food, or feed off of their mother. Is this normal, and will they get their appetite back once they are done with the Duralactin Fel with L-Lysine?

How old are the kittens? That will be the real determinant of whether they'll eat solid food. Usually around 5-6 weeks they'll start with real food. If they're younger than that and the mother has stopped feeding them, you'll need some kitten milk replacement until they're old enough to start weaning over to dry food. You might want to look up how to wean kittens sice you don't just go from mother's milk one day to all solid food the next. This article is pretty complete in describing what you need to do http://petcaretips.net/weaning_kitten.html

They're about 5 weeks and 6 days, so they should be fine with kitten food. I was wondering if they are getting everything they need from the Duralactin Fel with L-Lysine, or if we should force feed them.

Are you feeding them wet food? You can dilute the wet food with some water or kitten milk replacement and syringe feed them. They NEED to eat NOW.

I just gave them some wet food. How much would be good for a serving? I just held them and put it in their mouth, we are getting a syringe later, so I'll try diluting it in water, since they drink a lot.

I'm not sure, but I would think a teaspoon would be a good starting point.

Thanks. They still don't want to eat, but I'll force them to now.

I'm just glad they're drinking now, because they weren't before they got their medicine from the vet.
