Help- I need a harness and ID tag with no metal

Does anyone know where I can get a harness and ID tag which have no metal parts, and a clip to attach the ID to the harness?
I will be traveling by air with one of my cats in December and they require you to take the cat out of the carrier and hold them while you walk through the metal detector (the empty carrier goes through the x-ray machine.)
I need a harness so I will have something to hold onto while holding him, in case he gets scared or tries to jump down. I want the ID tag just in case so he will have ID...
I looked at the harnesses I have but they all have metal, and I am not sure how to find an ID tag and tag clip with no metal at all. I tried a web search, but no luck. I guess I could write on the harness or collar instead of getting a tag if I can't find a tag that will work, or if anyone knows a type of collar you can easily write on that might work too.

Don't worry with that amount of metal, it is going to be ok. Some metal is ok; for example, most belts are ok, the buttons on your shirts and pants, jewelry, watches...
You will pass the carrier through the x-ray (attach the leash of the harness before you take him out of the carrier), and he goes through the machine with you.
If the machine beeps, which it shouldn't, they can pull the metal detector and pass it over the harness really quickly...
You will be fine though, don't worry about it...

Even if the harness causes the detector to beep, it's not like you get arrested for having metal. They'll do a pass with the wand, see that it's your cat's harness, and you'll be on your way. No need to go out and spend more on another harness

I too, wouldn't worry about the harness but for tags - you could always use plastic luggage tags attached with a ziptie to the harness Kinda moot tho if the harness has metal.

Thanks guys! I've never done air travel with a pet before and I wasn't sure how sensitive those metal detectors are. I want to avoid them having to use the wand because I think it might freak Church out (especially since he'll probably be a little nervous with the noise and all.) When he gets nervous he tends to dig his claws in... I was going to get a new harness anyway so I figured if I could find one without metal it would be even better.

It's probably not going to pick it up... I have a pretty heavy watch, always wear a belt, often go through with a lighter on my pocket, never had an issue... you should be fine

We JUST flew from the US to Japan last month, and we used harnesses and leashes on both cats. The lady who scanned us through was NOT a cat person, but other than that, no problems! I was really terrified of that alarm going off, as I was carrying Piccalo and she hates noise. What time are you traveling? If you are going through a busy airport, you can ask to be scanned separately (or that is what they told me when I checked with the airline). If you have any specific questions about our flight experience, PM me!

I have a friend who makes harness vests.. it uses velcro to secure the harness. www.championdogclothes.com she does use a lil metal D-ring, but perhaps you can see if she can find some alternative to the metal.. since you mostly need it to secure a tag. Let her know that Melanie referred you.

I know they make plastic tags.. but not sure what you can use to attatch the tag to the harness... unless you can find some kind of plastic clip.

I know typically at an airport, if there is something metal, they will just use a hand scanner.. they would determine that there is nothing on your body, and the metal is coming from the cat's harness/tag.

OH, my friend could also embroider your info on the harness! No tag needed that way.

Thanks, that helps! I am nervous about flying with him so if you have any suggestions or info it would be helpful. It's only a 2 hour flight so the actual flying part should not be TOO bad. I am also worried that Church might get scared of the noise.
I'll be travelling in the afternoon, I'm not sure if it will be crowded but it may be since it's in mid-December so there is the holiday travel season...
