Later this afternoon I'm going to an area retirement facility where the residents will be visited by some furry friends from the rescue I work with. Will be taking some pictures and doing an article for our next senior section in the Telegraph. I thought about assigning one of our writers to do the story, but this is one I just have to do myself. Should be fun!

I think it is a wonderful thing to do. My dad spent the last year and a half of his life in a nursing home. I took Muffin up for a visit to see him and he was so excited. Muffin had never had on a collar and leash, but he did very good and was happy to see my dad. Have fun

I hope you have fun with this later.

My MIL is an activities director at a residential home. They finally let one woman keep her little dog since it's an older dog. From what she says the other residents enjoy it, too.
Other times they'd have certified therapy animals in and once even a rabbit.

It was a great visit. The volunteers from the rescue brought several of the older, well socialized kittens. They did a presentation on the rescue efforts, including its low cos spay/neuter clinic. The residents than had the opportunity visit with and hold the kitties (who behaved very well
), and shared stories about their own pets over the years. I met a very sweet lady who told me about her beloved kitties, Chopin and Gigi, and will actually be staying in touch with her. Turns out she was a reporter for our local daily paper for 43 years, so we'll have a lot to talk about.

Pictures coming tomorrow (need to download them at the office).

My Mom lives in an assisted living place where pets are allowed. There is one cat & a house dog. It makes all the difference.

My mother spent three months in rehab at a nursing home earlier this year. The only bright spot in the place was the resident cat.

You need to talk them into taking a cat.

Here are a few pics of the kitties' visit to the retirement home. The residents really enjoyed their furry visitors:

When my mom was in hospice before she died, the nurse was telling us about one of the former residents.

She had always loved horses. Word got up to the head man at hospice, so he arranged to bring a pony right into this ladys room. She was too ill to go out so, the pony came to her.

We all teared up at this story and how surprised and happy that made the lady.

There are quality people out there, getting harder to find. But they are there as evidenced by all the posts here.
