It's Queen Eva! Bleeding from the mouth! I THINK it's a loose tooth, waiting for the on call vet to call back.

Oh no. I hope you find out what the problem is. Keep us posted.

can you not rinse her mouth then watch it see where the bleed is coming from?

hope the vet calls soon, it might be why she wasnt eating

My gosh. I'm sure most of you know that shaft of stun-gun fear.

I'm just off the phone with the on call vet. It's beginning to seem that Queen Eva is a bit older than we thought, if she is teething already. It's funny, my vet and I were just talking about that earlier. I think I may have mentioned I spoke to the vet this morning and she had me looking in Queen Eva's mouth for any sign of ulcers or adult canines.

I'm sorry to start a fresh thread on what may be the same topic:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=222782

but I was of course hoping for immediate guidance.

Okay sorry to run on.....as you may know from the other thread, Queen Eva was off her food this morning. I had managed to get about 1.5 oz in her before I left for the day, after massaging her belly, she feels very gassy.

I came home late this afternoon and gave her another massage. I came home for good a little earlier than I had hoped and engaged her in lots of running and jumping to help stimulate her appetite and get those bowels moving.

When I put her dish down she dove in with an appetite but after just a couple of bites she started drooling the food out and doing something funny with her tongue.

Once the food washed out, some pure blood washed out. My first reaction was gut wrenching panic, that she had eating a string or something and was bleeding inside, but I managed to calm myself enough to realize she was not vomiting or retching, but drooling.

I held her and opened her mouth and was able to hold her long enough to see some blood in the center of her gum line, upper right, and a speck of white, off center, before she squirmed away, still doing that thing with her tongue.

It was after that I flew to the phone, then the computer.

The on call vet called me back almost immediately and spoke to me at great length. She described what does sound like what Queen Eva is going through with her inappetence earlier today, said their gums will get sore, and even their throat, from teething.

She felt as it was in the center of the gum it would be a premolar, and that sometimes they get stuck in the gum and tear a little.

She advised me to keep Queen Eva hydrated, if I couldn't get her to eat her canned food to give her some broth, or baby food or canned chicken water, anything like that. To keep her warm, and if no improvement in the morning, bring her to my vet.

Well. By the time I was off the phone Queen Eva was playing with Tolly. I approached her and she ducked away, she wasn't having any more of me prying her mouth open!

I fed her some of Tolly's Blue Gourmet Flaked Chicken and she gobbled it up. I fed her some more and she gobbled it up again. She is no longer doing the funny thing with her tongue, and no more drooling of blood, so it looks like the tooth has finally come loose, she most likely swallowed it.

Holy cow. Who ever said pets make you live longer and reduce stress, I don't think ever had pets. Stuff like this takes years off me, I am certain.

Yeah that first bolt of fear, man it's wicked.

Thanks you guys for being here when I needed some support. She's all curled up sleeping it off now. Lucky her. I'm still wound up and feeling sick to my stomach with residual fear, haven't had my supper yet and don't know if I can even eat now.

I know she's okay, but geesh.

I am in total agreement! I'm sure I've lost several years off my life dealing with my kitties.

Glad Queen Eva is eating and playing well. Hope she continues to improve and returns to "normal".

I figured the other thread was tooth related even if you didn't think you noticed any teething. Some teeth a little earlier and some have more issues. Tanna went off her food after losing one of her back teeth because it was taking a little longer to grow into her tiny mouth. If your girl has a small mouth it may be a bit more painful for her, too.

She could have the same problem with the other side, so be prepared. With luck you may find one of her teeth on the floor when you go to clean. (I found one for each of my kittens )

OMG I remember the first time Lazlo had a problem with one of his nails.... MUCH scarier when bleeding from the mouth though I'm sure!

Well, that sure would explain the problem with wanting to eat!

for Queen Eva that the rest of her toofies come in without any problem!!!

And for meowmy!

Thanks everyone. It happened again later last night with her last meal. This time on the other side of her mouth, in the same spot, middle of the gum, so the other premolar. I could actually hear her grinding it, ugh!

She was unable to eat the pate food, or kibble, but had no trouble with the Blue Gourmet "flaked", so that is what she ate.

She slept curled up against my stomach as usual.

Tolly was my last kitten I had so young and he never had any teeth problems. Mazy was six months when she came here (and twice the size of Queen Eva) and lost at least one tooth, I know because I found it.

Oh yeah, been there. I think I posted something not long ago about aging 10 years in 10 seconds when Stinkpot jumped off the 2nd story bannister!

Anyway, glad it's just teething. Whew!!

Queen Eva is back to normal, thank you! Eating with usual appetite and playing playing playing.

Just now I was reading on the couch and she was sleeping on my legs. Of course I couldn't resist reaching out to stroke her and she murmured a long contented brrrrtcracklymewbrrt and did one of her Famous Queen Eva Stretches....onto her back. I mourned that my camera was all the way across the room, but got tears in my eyes I just love her so much!

I, as I do many times a day, sent up a fervent prayer of thanks that she was put in my path, and wouldn't you know, suddenly there was Ootay, her face in my mind clear as if she was in front of me, her eyes bright with love, nodding her head at me to say "You're welcome".
