Extreemly Vocal (Excessive)

Hello there.

I've had my cat for almost 5 years and she has always been on the vocal side. Over the years I've tried to get her to quiet down abit but wihtout any sucess.

Recently it's gotten a little bit too much and I am at a loss of what to do. I've tried ignoring her and rewarding her when she is quiet, but when I approach her to reward she meows. So I immediately walk away and return when she is quiet for her to meow again.

I've tried the water bottle, but it doesn't seem to "click" why she is getting a little squirt.

She was recently checked out and nothing is wrong, she has been fixed so she is not in heat.

I've tried to play with her more than usual, but it still results in her meowing. I can tolerate a bit of meowing here and there, but she's just going around meowing for no reason.

Is there anything I can do to put an end to the excessive talking ?

Any help / insight would be GREATELY appreciated!

Thanks!

The water bottle because she is being vocal and affectionate towards you?
Some cats are just more vocals than others... Siamese mixes are an example - extremely vocal... Does your cat have Siamese in it?
I have three cats - one who is practically mute, one who only meows to complain, when is in pain, or going to the vet , and my girl Lucky who is extremely vocal... She will demand attention, no matter what... And the solution for it, is to give her attention. When she comes to me begging for attention, I talk to her, put her on my lap, play with her, give her my solo attention, then let her go.
I love her so much, her signs of affection towards me will never be punished... How could I?

I am not punishing my cat for being affectionate towards me.

I am punishing her because she is meowing exessively. I give her plenty of attention and play with her, but she still goes around the house meowing for now good reason.

This is a behavioral issue that needs to be corrected, I came here to find out what the best way to go about it.

I'm not sure if it is relevant but I forgot to mention that my cat was ferrel and that I took her in when she was about a year old. She used to hiss and growl a lot, even just walking by her but has come a very long way. I also had her spade last year hopping it would help her meowing and it did for a short period of time but she is back at it again.

I also forgot to mention that my cat has no Siames in her (that I can tell). Plain old regular black cat.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Thanks

I can sympathise with you. I have a very vocal bengal (trait of the breed). and while his constant talking doesn't bother me, it does sometimes scare me when he starts screaming the house down. He's so loud and tortured sounding that I get concerned he's hurt himself. i always end up jumping up to check on him, to find him sitting there contently. It's just always in the back of my mind that if something really was wrong this time - and I ignored it, I'd never forgive myself.

Have you tried feliway? Or, one of the feliway type collars? They look like a flea collar, and release pheromones to calm the cat down. Sometimes when my boy is being especially out of contol, I'll put a few drops of something like remedy rescue into his food.

Good Luck to you!

I can relate totally to you on that one, sorry i cant offer you any advice though as i still have the problem with 2 YES 2 of mine ! They constantly talk ( i really do mean constantly, the only time they are quiet is when they are asleep), if its not meowing its all sorts of noises. I have a feeling mine are a siamese mix though. I have now after nearly 2 years got use to them doing it but my husband has not lol.
