If you have a microphone, Microsoft products like word have built in voice software that you could use to type your msg then all you need to do is copy and paste it.

Or if you want to spend the money LOL, Dragon Naturally Speaking is an amazing voice software program that I would highly recommend.

As someone with 2 messed up hands I can completely understand how difficult it can be, and would recommend the voice software with MS word over txt speak.

With text speak, depending on how you use it, you can eliminate many of your readers who won't understand it. Most ppl understand some abbreviations, but high txt speak, I'd be afraid of losing a lot of readers.

Just my 2 cents, some ppl are unaware of the voice software included with MS word, hence the mention.

How you chose to type is ultimately up to you.

I'm one that can't read more than the basic text speak.

Probably unhelpful, but I often type with just one hand. I'd say it takes practice, but it's more laziness than anything.

If your hand is going to take a while to heal, do look into the voice recognition programs so as to make this easier for you.

Hopefully your hand heals quickly.

It usually takes me at least three times as long to read text speak as to read plain English, and sometimes I never do figure out what's being said. Therefore, my first inclination is to simply skip any messages written in text speak.

Sorry, I seem to have missed what happened to your hand. If it's a temporary disability, go ahead and use the texting abbreviations and I'll try to struggle through it. If it's going to be long-term, I highly recommend getting one of the voice software programs.

I don't mind, but I will admit I can't understand "in-depth" text speak (if such exists
) I can understand some abbreviations and don't mind if you type that way while your hand heals!

Random side note: I hate when people use text speak in what is supposed to be a professional setting. My friend and I have both sent emails to the crappy pole fitness studio in the past, and the owner has responded with "2ce" for twice, "2" and "4" and "u" and "r" and "h8" ... for what should have been a professional discussion

Ew. A young teen would type that way. Maybe I'm persnickety on what's okay and what's not purely as a matter of personal preference.

But I know there is one that makes me laugh if I see it - Plus nowadays it's used in a facetious and playful manner ----- O RLY? for "Oh really?"

My MIL has teen text speak beat. She uses inconsistent abbreviations and assumes you know what the heck she's talking about when she gives no subject.

We were making fun of her for texting the other day saying they were having "pizza soup". She shortened it to that instead of saying "we're having pizza and soup". A few days before that her too brief message had my BIL going to the wrong house since he didn't know she actually meant for him to meet us at the restaurant.

Text speak on message boards and e-mail is one of my biggest pet peeves, but knowing that you are typing that way due to a hand fracture it would not bother me one bit!

I think that voice recognition software is out of my budget. Nor will I need it after the hand is heeled. I guess I will hunt and peck,

Lots of free voice software proggies out there... if you tell us what type of OS you have, I bet someone can link you to a freebie

Like I already posted, Microsoft has voice software already with MS word....no additional install required, and its fairly good.

I know nothing about Macs, so can't help you there, but as SW posted, there's proggies out there for Mac users too.

Sending lots of that your hand heals quickly!

As for text-speak, I'm not a big fan of it, but hey, you hurt your hand! There's a reason! I'd rather you post in text-speak than not post at all.

I can't, (and won't) read text/chat speak, it gives me a phenomenal headache to even try.

I understand your dilemma and realize it is temporary, I can understand also not wanting to be cut off from the forum for the duration of your disability.

But I won't be able to read your posts for a while is all.

Get better fast!
