Cat being sick after being fixed

Hi there! I am new to this site. I have 2 kittens that were just fixed, one had worms so they treated him. Since he has been back home he has not been himself. He first started off sneezing all the time but now he is throwing up and has a runny stool. Would this be because of the worm medicine? The other cat that didn't have worms is fine he plays outside all day. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Worm medicine really shouldn't have affected him in that manner, nor should the castration. It would be best to call your vet.

Welcome to TCS. Hurray for you getting your cats neutered!

If one had worms they both have worms, so I wonder why the other wasn't treated also. And if they are going outside, they will need to be wormed regularly, all their lives.

Sounds like your one kitten has started an URI, upper respiratory infection. I'd get him in to see the vet.

Have they been tested for FeLV/FIV?

Sounds like he's got the start of an upper respiratory infection and needs to see the vet. URIs are easily picked up and transmitted during stressful situations, like being at the vet's for the neutering.

He is at the vet now. They are keeping him for tonight and maybe longer. I am just glad he is getting help. The poor lil guy is not himself at all

Yeah, Parker had similar symptoms when he had his URI. He had a 3 day stay at the vet. Hope your kitty has a speedy recovery!

Hope your little boy is better soon. Good job getting him to the vet right away, he is where he needs to be. Bet the other baby is looking for him though.

Please keep us posted

Sorry he had to stay at the vet's, but I'm glad he's getting the care and attention he needs. Have you heard anything from the vet this morning yet?

They called me this morning. Not looking good, I don't think he is going to make it. They have him on IV and are doing x-rays and blood work. But he is still very sick. Guess he had a rough night. BUT I am trying to stay positive that he will get better and come back home.

Yes the other one has been looking for him. It's almost like he knows,he has been very down today but trying to comfort me(which is something he doesn't normally do is cuddle LOL). I will let you all know when I find out more. I hope they call me soon because I am so upset I physically feel sick.

They just called and he has Feline panleukopenia. I googled it and found out what it is.

They told me he has a 50/50 chance which I will take because I thought my next call was them saying he needs to be put to sleep

Oh dear, I was afraid of this. I want to tell you that in another forum someone just went through this with their kitten, and the baby pulled through! He had to have a couple of blood transfusions I think, I'll have to check on that, and he was in the hospital a long time, but in the end he came home and is doing great!

what's the baby's name?

<edit> the other kitten did not get a blood transfusion I was wrong about that apparently it's not that effective because the new cells just get attacked anyway, the kitten needs to build his own immunity.

His name is Shadow, which is the name I stuck with. My kids keep changing it every week, but he is shadow because he follows me every where...lol

I haven't heard anything yet on how he is doing, but I am sure I will this morning.Hope he is doing better the poor lil guy. I will post when I hear anything. Thanks for being here. This is a great site.

Just checking in to send Shadow some more vibes.

Don't get discouraged if he's slow to improve, this disease takes time to conquer.

He is still the same today. They think if he is not better after today we will have to say good bye to him. I hope not cause I am gonna be crushed.

Shadow is gone now. He was not reacting well to the treatment and was suffering very badly. Thank you all for talking me through this.

I'm so sorry, Jen. May he rest in peace.
