We found our kitten in the spring, when she was stray and/or feral and very hungry. Now she is tame and cuddly. We think she will be a year old in
December. She seems to be eating a lot these days and is generally looking a bit thicker. We feed her 1/3 of a can 2x a day. She always has some dry food available, but does not seem interested in it. She seems bigger, but her coat is also thickening for the winter. She is an indoors only cat and loves chasing her 'mousy' around or batting pencils on the floor. How do we tell if she is getting a bit too pudgy?

1/3 of what sized can?

Can you feel her ribs? When standing above her can you see a waistline?

When is her next check up appointment?

and what does she weigh?

Say she weighs 10 lbs... at 1/2 oz to 1 oz per lb ( feed only wet) she would get 5-10 oz a day ( this is a general guideline)

Thanks for the help!
1. I can feel her ribs
2. You can clearly see a waist line from above
3. She gets 133g of wet food 3x a day. I think this is about 9oz a day.
4. I will try to get her on a scale, but it is like herding cats.
5. she won't be going to the vet for basically a year. On her last visit, she was declared 'very pretty.'

9 oz of food is a lot for a house cat, but if she isn't gaining it must be right for her. Of course it depends on the food too, some foods are very high in calories and some aren't.

Tolly eats 6 oz a day, and Jennie eats only 4.5 oz a day but they are both getting the same amount of calories from their canned: 180. Tolly supplements with more kibble snacks than Jennie gets, as he is much more active than she is.
