I guess it is not so strange..some people told me it does happen. I just have never seen it before.

I have a mother cat and kitten. Long story. When the babies were first born she did great. After two weeks she started ignoring them. It was really bizarre. Hissing, growling. I had to give them away and I kept one.

One day when I was bottle feeding the kitten the momma cat jumped on the couch and stole the baby back!

She was cuddling, feeding, playing with it. For about a week...

Then she started displaying the same behaviors as the previous weeks. Sitting outside the "nest"...following around my other cat, and hissing at the baby again!!

I brought her to the vet and she is fine. I thought maybe she had mastitis, nope. Maybe she gets annoyed with it? I dunno...

has anyone else seen this before?

Hormonal swings by any reason??

Good you were to the vet, so it is no apparent sickednesses.

A few reasons she may be acting this way.

1. She is going in and out of heat cycles. I know of cats whose babies are 4-5 weeks old and when they come in heat will ignore the babies and stop nursing them.

2. She is very young herself and really doesn't know what to do.

I would get mom spayed quickly either way and if you keep the kitten, plan on spay/neuter by 3-4 months old.
