Poor Mr Grey... As if he didn't already have enough problems with his allergy/immune issues and eosinophilic granulomas which I posted about recently. On Monday he started limping on his front foot, completely holding it off the ground and it became swollen. This was the same foot that already had a sore and a swollen toe pad (which started at the same time as sores on his back feet from his allergies) so it is hard to say if this new issue was something related to that or not...
However my vet thinks it is unrelated to the sores and previous swelling even though it's the same toe that was swollen before... They took an x-ray to make sure he didn't have a broken toe or anything since he was not putting any weight on that foot. He didn't, but she said it showed a lot of inflammation in the toe pad and in the center paw pad. She thinks he may have sprained it and/or injured tendons. He had a steroid shot a week ago and she said that steroids can weaken the tendons, so if he jumped and twisted it or landed funny or something it may have caused an injury because of that.
It looks like Mr Grey is going to be my 'million dollar kitty' since he's now up to $500+ in vet bills within a week (not counting all the other visits we had for his allergy-related issues) and my vet wants me to bring him in twice a week to do laser therapy treatments for his injured foot.
The only other treatment she recommended was that we could do a splint, but she said that since he is self-limited (not using the foot) he doesn't necessarily need one and it would have to be removed every time he had the laser treatment. His foot is very sore/tender right now so I think it would be painful to have a splint on and to keep having to take it on and off, so I decided not to get the splint unless he starts trying to use the foot or getting too active.
