We just went to see this a few days ago - GREAT movie - highly recommend it for every horse lover.

Big Red was my fav race horse and a close 2nd was the filly Ruffian. Two of the greatest race horses ever born!

Go see it, but bring tissues. It was great watching him in action all over again - I remember seeing him win the TC on tv (the Belmont was the best of the races).

I just saw this too! And I totally agree....fantastic movie!

I think it was shot brilliantly - the races themselves were thrilling. I'm not a fan of horseracing, but I remember when Secretariat won the Triple Crown and what a big deal it was.

Huge, magnificent horse. I thought the horse(s) they used for Secretariat in the movie were gorgeous.

The ending of the Belmont, with the music and the slo-mo was spectacular!!! I really want to see it again!

One question - does anyone know if they used the real shots of the races and blended it in. I say they had to use the real race and not "re-create" them. Hubby thinks they didn't use the real race.

It would be impossible to have the horses position themselves exactly to re-create.

I remember watching with my grandfather who gave me my love of horses.

If you google Secretariat, there is loads of information on his life and the movie. If you google "secretariat...running from within" there is a video that shows him being turned out to pasture. You have to see it....the power in his chest, the muscles. He was 12 years old at that point.

There is a video tour of the Meadow Farm, which is now being turned into the new site for the Virginia State Fair. Only a couple buildings remain. But one is the foaling shed where he was born. They say race horses are buried head, heart and hoof. However, Secretariat was buried in tact, as I believe was Ruffian.

Ruffian is also a huge favorite of mine. Because of her and Barbaro, I cannot watch horseracing anymore. It is too hard to see them get hurt. I only watched anyway to admire their beauty.

Both my Dh and I have had horses and sure would like to own again. I plan to rent the film when it comes out and have the grandkids watch with us.
I would love to go to Virginia and tour the area. I guess there is still one horse on the property.

I can't wait to see it with the grandkids. Just like I did years ago.

I haven't seen it, but I know they used the actual footage of the Preakness. Makes sense, 'cause that was an otherworldly move Secretariat made in that race, and I don't know how easy it'd be to recreate that.

I'm not sure I want to see this movie. I'll probably see it when it comes to the cheap theatre, but from what I hear from fellow racing lovers, this movie is a bit, uh, lacking. But it is a movie promoting racing, and is all about the 2nd greatest racehorse of all time (sorry, the original Big Red, Man o'War is the greatest. That is all.) So I'm pretty sure I'll see it soon, if just for the cinematography and the pretty horsies, lol
