I want to thank everyone for their posts on my previous questions. You have all been extremely helpful!

I am trying to mate my queen to my tom right now (this is a first for me). Both are experienced. She's delivered one healthy litter, and he's sired two (the last was conceived 5 months ago). She's calling and posturing and showing all the signs of heat, and he's following her around like a lost puppy. Every time he tries to mount her, she flops over onto her side. Is this because she's in the proestrus phase and not the estrus phase yet, or is something else wrong. She is not the first cat that I have known to show this behaviour, and I'm stumped.

We attempted to breed her on her last cycle, without success.

I don't know what (if anything) I can do, or what the problem could be. They are both in great health.

Thank you all again for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Is she willing for a little "help"? Sometimes if the cats are cooperative you can guide them - try keeping her on 4 feet and when the male mounts her then let go and see if they can take over from there.

Did you breed her the first time or was it another breeder? If another breeder witnessed it, maybe contact them to see if there was a problem or what you can do different.

The last time was with another breeder and was an accident. She didn't witness it and didn't even know she was pregnant until her tummy started to get larger. After this she decided she didn't want to breed anymore and sold Bella to me.

I'll give helping her a try (if she'll let me) and see how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If it doesn't work, then I suggest you spay her, and work on finding another female for your breeding program. Some cats are just not meant to be breeding cats.
