Well i caught that gray cat on my deck twice yesterday.. Once Mikey was hanging out on the other end of the yard, while the gray cat was just laying on the deck in front of Mikey's shed.. Then later that afternoon, i saw the gray cat laying on the deck in front of Mikey's little door too his shed/apartment.. I thought maby he was blocking Mikey from going in, but when i scared the gray cat away, Mikey popped his head out his door, and he looked pretty spooked.. He was acting timid for a few minutes, and took a few minutes to lure him out. So im not quite sure what the gray cats intentions are, if he's harassing Mikey, or if he's friendly and just hanging out with him.. But so far out of the 3 times iv seen the gray cat, 2 of the times he was there, Mikey seemed to be staying away from the deck, and the third, he was basically stuck in his room, cause the gray cat was laying right in front of the door. So i dunno, but im gonna keep my eye on him.. Mom said she would check from time to time also and scare him away if she sees him anywhere in the yard.

I found some left over carpet in my storage room today.. Must have been in there for about 10 years, left over from when we had the basement carpeted 10 years ago.. But the carpet is brand new, never been used.. So im going to carpet Mikey's apartment, give him some nice soft carpet that he can lay on and play on in there, plus it will help keep him warmer..

I'll take some pictures when im finished..

So the gray cat hasn't been a problem?

I was thinking it wouldn't hurt if you told mom how much you appreciate her keeping an eye out for Mikey - that you're worried about him when you're not around and it makes you feel better knowing that she's watching. Hopefully she'll end up feeling like she wants Mikey inside as well. It sounds like she's got a lot on her plate - I'm pretty sure it'll make her feel good to know you appreciate her help. Heck, I remember when I adopted my boy cat - he's twice the size of my first cat and I was scared to death when he chased her - turned out they were playing, and my little girl certainly stood up for herself - but your mom probably truly is a little afraid for her baby - but I bet Mikey will grow on her, especially as she protects him from the gray cat.

And he is beautiful - and your dad did a wonderful job on the apartment.

The gray cat hasn't been seen in about 3 or 4 days, so maby hes gonna stay away.. I did feel a long thin scab behind Mikey's ear, so it looks like he got scratched.. Coulda been a branch from a bush or something, but it was probably another car.. Or maby he and the gray cat duked it out and Mikey chased him off, cause nobody has seen him.. I dunno, but Mikey's fine..

Heres some pictures of Mikey's apartment i promised..

I put some carpet down for him, and im doing a little repair work around his little door.. The wood was a little rotted at the bottom. So i cut out the old wood and sealed it with sealer. Then im gonna put in some new wood peices, and make him a little swinging door out of plexi glass.

Heres the little entrance for his door my dad made..

Been thinking about you and Mikey - how're things going?

What a pad Mikey has! And his door sure has curb appeal! What a lucky boy!

I have one of those wave or curl type stratchers as in your picture for my cats. However, I shouldn't say "I have it" or that it is for my "cats" because my little pint sized black DSH, "Lily" has appropriated it for her very own. She will only let her best bud, "Ariel" near it. If either of the big boys, who supposedly are the two who should be vying for "alpha cat" status, (Ha, Ha!) get anywhere near it, she takes off after them batting and nipping at their heels as they retreat. It's hers, and everybody else better know it. It's very funny. She sits in the curl part for hours at a time. There is a snap on feather toy in the underneath part. She loves it, but it comes off easily. I snap it back on about 6 times a day (sigh).

So glad it is working out. Sounds like your parents really want to help Mikey. I know the feeling of being unsure of letting another cat into the house and upsetting everyone's comfortable status quo. It usually works out, though. It just takes time for all to adjust.

We're doing fine. Been doing a bunch of work on the shed that Mikey is living in.. Found some rotted wood from a old water leak, so i ripped that out and am sealing it with sealer and new wood.. And i went around and sealed up any holes or open spots around the shed, and put in a heater for Mikey at night.. It stays about 65 - 70 degrees in there at night, so hes nice and warm at night.

Its funny, i come home from work, and go out on the deck and start working on Mikey's room, and i have to pull all his stuff out, and he just sits there and watches me with that "C'mon dad, get outta my room!".. look on his face.. lol.

Oh and i added a little swinging door too his little door way.. Its clear plexi glass.. So he can look out before answering, lol.. Plus it keeps the heat in for him.. I also installed a medium sized fan in the ceiling for when summer comes (just thinking ahead) So he has central air now too! lol..

Its turned into kind of a project, im even thinking about painting it.. Before too long Mikey is gonna have a little kitty mansion! lol.

Mikey got into a fight with another cat the other night.. I was sitting in my room and i heard cat screaming outside.. So i got up and ran out there, and didnt see anyone, but found Mikey in his apartment, all puffed up and tense. I bent down to check him out, and he had gray hairs all over him, and a big tuff of gray hair sticking out the side of his mouth.. lol.. So it looks like that gray cat came around again, and from the looks of it, Mikey beat him up!! Mikey didnt have a mark on him, i checked him very thoroughly..

So maby getting his butt kicked will keep that gray cat away from now on..

It's wonderful Mikey has his safe house! I agree - sounds like he won that one. Glad he didn't get hurt - and let's hope that's the last of that cat! (BTW, do you know if that gray kitty is neutered? If there's a low cost clinic around to get him neutered, you may want to provide that information to his owner, if you can figure out who it is. Maybe attach a note to a breakaway collar and get it on him if you can. Otherwise - if it were us, we'd trap him and just do it ourselves. Being neutered would calm him down a LOT if he isn't already, and might help stop the fights).

He KNOWS how much you're doing for him, and he may not be indoors where you want him, but he is ONE lucky little boy!

LOVE the kitty mansion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see pics as it progresses.

Well i havent been around in a while, so i thought id update on Mikey..

He's living in the house again.. Turns out he was having a good bit of trouble outside from other "critters". We thought it was this gray cat of my neighbors bothering him. Cause i would keep hearing fights outside, but never saw any of them.. But i would see the gray cat in my yard alot..

Anyway after months of that finally heard Mikey crying one night so i went to check on him, and he was crying and couldent walk on one of his front legs. I took him to the pet emergency room and found out he got bit by something on the leg, and it was infected.. Well a few shots later hes fine, so i decided to keep him inside, and see if i could catch what was pestering him.

So i put a cage trap out in his kitty house, and the first night i caught a possum, then the second night i caught a siamese cat that lives a few doors down, then the 3rd night i caught this hugh gray stripped cat iv never seen before.. All of them coming in the night looking for his food.. I havent caught anything in the past few nights, but iv seen a racoon out there a few times in the past few weeks, so im gonna keep trying and see if i can catch him.

So after finding that out, Mom is letting me keep him inside now, and i just let him go outside to play when he feels like it.. (which iv noticed, he really doesnt want to go out much, and when he does, its not for very long.)

But regardless, hes living inside now, and hes good.. Im still keeping him and my other cat Joey seperated for now, he sniff each other under my door from time to time.. Caught them playing "footsies" under the door a few times too.. Plus Mikey is a little older now, and has calmed down a bit, hes not as hyper.. So ill just let them sniff each other under the doors for a while, and maby after a while they can just hang out..

So glad for the update. I've been wondering about you and Mikey and Joey.

I thoroughly approve of keeping Mikey inside because what happened to him is what happens, or worse. You are too invested in him emotionally and financially to risk his life by letting him out on his own.

Yeah Mikey stays inside most of the time now.. He stays inside all morning, and if its a nice day, and warm enough, i let him go outside to play when i come home for lunch around 1 - 2pm, then he comes in when i get home around 6pm.. So he gets to play outside for 3 or 4 hours a day.. But thats if he even wants to go out, so far he's been 50/50 about it.. Sometimes he wants to go out and play, sometimes he just wants to stay in and chill out..
