Another Disappoitment

Well Angel had her babies on Friday. 3 males; one was stillborn (choco-silver), one was not doing good, so only one left and its a chocolate.

Long story short but Patty (who has Angel at her house) was not there to supervise; Ann's quite upset about it since it was Angel's first time. She's as disappointed as I am.

Spice will be due beginning of December and she is choco-silver bred to chocolate (a dark cold chocolate color which is good for contrast). So we will see what we get from Spice. They will rebreed Angel in a few months if she only has the one kitten left - she's in very good shape and they will monitor her closer this time around.

What a shame, and poor Angel. My girls came looking for me when it was time, cannot imagine not being there - but things do happen, Patty probably feels terrible (I thought Anne owned Angel?)

Hope you get something nice from Spice's litter.

That's a real shame, Martice. I'm on the phone with a friend who has rushed her Exotic to the vet because she's having trouble after her first kitten. Oh the joys of breeding right.

Angel is owned by me, Patty and Ann - but she's at Patty's house. Ann is considering bringing her to her house next time a few weeks before she's due. Ann doesn't work but Patty does.

I can certainly understand Patty's pain as Skylark caught me off guard the first time she delivered. It happens once and then you tend to be a lot more careful and prepared the next time. What I was advised to do was to calculate the days and then breed for expected kittens at the beginning of the weekend (or your days off). It's not really as difficult as it sounds, since my cats tend to stick pretty closely to 67 days. I'm not saying it's perfect as there are many variations to the norm. It all depends on how much trouble it will be to transport the cat to Anns and how comfortable she will be in a strange house. One last thing, now that the cat has had one litter, she will be more experienced the next time around and possibly things will go better.

Getting caught out is one thing Kelly, and is understandable I really feel for the poor girls who are left alone while people go to a show, or things like that.

Most breeders I know have to work, and couldn't afford to breed otherwise. I'm lucky I have a lot of annual leave saved so just take the week off when mine are due.

I wouldn't want to be uprooting a pregnant girl

Its only an hour's drive between the houses, so no problem bringing her in 2-3 weeks before she is due and setting her up in a quiet bedroom.

I hope things go better next time or Spice has what I want. Its hard to be patient but I know I'll be getting a good cat by waiting.

The one kitten that Angel has now just may be a choco-silver - he now has more white on his face. Sometimes the silvers take awhile to start showing the white base coat; a good thing as the contrast usually is better in the end.

SOOOOO we just may have our little Zorro in the making. Ann will go see him in a few weeks to take pics and Patty says the boy is strong and a good size; so sounds more promising for the time being. We still have Spice as a back up to see if there might be something better if this one doesn't turn out to be show quality.

How heartbreaking about the losses. I hope some good news comes your way soon.

A few more days have passed, has he turned out to be the right colour?

I'll try to call Patty this weekend and find out. Ann says she will go over soon and check him out.

Well - nope - the last one is a chocolate - not the chocolate silver. We will wait and see what Spice has in December. Then the kitten will be shipped in March.

That's too bad, GK. I hope your luck is better in December.

This will be the 3rd litter to wait on (Chloe didn't have him, Angel didn't have him) - they say 3rd time is the charm
